Something special is definitely happening in Liverpool. Slot has inherited a fantastic squad and with the injection of new ideas, energy is high.

Now just need to sort the contracts out. Depending on who you believe on the social medias, VvD seems to be the closest to signing an extension (like an announcement might be made soon). Salah seems to still be 50/50 (his comments today didn't do anything to help alleviate the anxiety that I'm sure many fans are feeling). And TAA seems to be the most difficult one to predict with many saying he already has his sights on joining Bellingham at Real Madrid.

I almost feel like they are waiting to sort out all three, one way or the other, before announcing the fates of each one. I get the feeling they just want to make one big announcement.

Watching the NBC match highlights this morning and noticed that the Liverpool defensive third of the field doesn't make it into a shot until the 38' of the game. Also at 10' of the video you can hear Anfield giving Pep the "you'll be sacked in the morning" treatment.

Slot's presence has improved almost every single player, except for Quansah. He has been our weak point all game long and really shouldn't be playing RB.

TAA comes on the field and we look waaay better.

Kelleher screwed us at the end there. He has been brilliant since Allison went out, but he definitely cost us 2 points today. I imagine Allison is going to be back this weekend

He has also saved us on more than one occasion. It's all good. 7 points clear. Draw away to Newcastle (traditionally a place we have found difficult) is a good result. Should have had the 3 points but we would have killed to be in the position we're in 14 games in to the season back in august. We're on track

Reports coming out saying VvD is set to reject Liverpool's latest contract offer. I don't understand what Edwards and Liverpool are thinking with the contract situations. VvD still looks like an elite defender that can probably sustain this level for at least another 2-3 years. Salah is playing the best football of his career and doesn't look like he has even lost a single step. I would not put it past him to play peak football well into his late 30s. I understand that there will inevitably be a decline at some point and not wanting to be stuck with a bad contract. In order to avoid that, it is smart to sell high (See Mane, Firmino, Henderson, Fabinho as examples of the last couple seasons). I get all that. But we aren't even selling them, we are just letting them walk. For free. And the cost of replacing them is more than the contracts they seem to want. All three expiring contracts wanted to see how this season was going to go and how the new manager would get on. And it honestly could not be going any better. 18 wins, 2 draws, and a single loss from the first 21 games.

VvD and Salah have both shown they want to stay (TAA is a little tricker to decipher but as a local lad I would imagine he would want to stay. Madrid, though, seem to have his head turned. Kind of reminds me when Chelsea had Gerrard's head turned.) VvD and Salah have both indicated they would accept short-term contracts to protect the long-term stability of the club and it's finances. What more could you ask of them?! To me, it's a no brainer to sign the both of them and then you are free to turn all your attention to TAA.

There is all this talk of who Liverpool are lining up to sign in January. Frimpong at Leverkusen, Marmoush at Frankfurt, Zubimendi at Sociedad, etc. Screw all that. Use those funds to re-sign at least VvD and Salah and bring some stability to the team, eliminate that distraction, and enjoy what is shaping out to be a very exciting season.

It's even worse because you know they aren't actually going to sign anyone. Big names, big rumors, big talk....no new signings...a Liverpool tradition.

It's clear Edwards is happy to let them walk unless they take a pay cut. My assumption is that he feels it's his opportunity to make an individual mark in Liverpool. It's the kind of thinking that works well when you are building, but not when you are trying to sustain. The dude is casually stirring **** into a title winning punch bowl.

The "championship window" is open. Keep the core together for another 2 seasons. But yes, I don't actually expect any big signings either

I think that is a bit presumptuous. They aren't trying to get rid of good players to make a mark. Edwards only took the job because they are working on a multi-club model, and we have no idea how much of a role he actually has in the negotiations.

The most compelling thing I've seen giving a good reason to re-sign Mo (other than his form) is the cost to bring in another player anywhere close to his level would be way more expensive than paying him for 2-3 more years. It doesn't look like his replacement is already on the roster.

It's going to cost $100M to find another VVD. It's going to cost over $150M to sign someone that isn't even as good as Salah.

The policy should be that they either sell people with 2 years left on their contracts or renegotiate then. If they're unwilling or can't agree, they're sold the summer before their final year. Unbelievable that they've let this happen with all 3 of these guys.

It's a laundry list of dudes. Another name that's driven me nuts over the years is Nat Phillips. We had offered for him during the last 3 summers and we wouldn't sell. I know he help during the season that we lost every CB, but otherwise he's never been in the plans. SELL HIM.

I think his contract is up next summer…so he'll walk for free

I'd just note the players have a huge part in this too. If they leave on a transfer, they have to agree terms with the other team and for basically all of these guys it would've been for significantly lower wages. So they wait and keep their LFC wages for another 1/2 years and then walk as free agents.(LFC's offers on a new contract was also much lower than current terms). It's much more beneficial to the player at that point since it opens up more teams instead of only the ones that'll pay for you. And that in most cases means higher wages for a player if no transfer fee is involved.

I agree leaving it so late is a bold strategy and I wish these deals were done already, but a lot of players are happy to wait as long as possible to re-sign. It's better for them. Unless of course, they get injured between now and June.

It will be maddening if Trent leaves. Since he's so young, he's one that they should've gotten done earlier. It's up to him, whereas with Mo and Virg, it's up to us.

Saw a Reddit thread that Mo Salah has scored in every minute of a game except the 9th minute. Look for a 9th minute goal from the Egyptian over the next month or so.

Must say Slots adjustment down 10 and the play/effort was incredible the rest of the 1st half. Dominated possession and attacked…just hard to break through down a man and Fulham packing it in.
