And with that, it's all but over unless Ipswich wins out, west ham loses out, and Ipswich can cover an 18 goal GD. Most boring relegation battle ever.
yep, only interesting race in PL now is the CL spots for next year
pulling for Nottingham Forest to get one of these spots

Leeds earn promotion if they win today.

They are up 5-0 at halftime

In EFL league 1 today, Charlon eviscerated Wycome 4-0. Wrexham wins 2-1. This puts Wrexham in 2nd with 2 games to go. However, Wrexham faces Charlton next. The auto promotion is interesting there

  • Birmingham 99
  • Wrexham 86
  • Wycome 84
  • Charlton 82
  • Stockport 81

In championship, looks like we will see Leeds and Burnley promoted to premier league again, then a 4 team scrum / playoff for that last spot included my Sunderland. I would like to see Burnley come up and stay up.

Birmingham and Charlton are both teams that spent many years in the Premier League.

Burnley are an absolutely dreadful watch and will need to break the bank on attacking players if they dream of staying up. Great center back pairing and Trafford is a + keeper that snuffed everything out.

Leeds need a new keeper, left back, a new 10 (Aaronson can't cope in PL) and a new 9. Assuming Farke has done enough to keep his job - I love the way they play.

Sheffield are toast and their boss has completely lost his head. Wouldn't surprise to see them lose before they get to Wembley. Assuming Fat Frank Lampard takes care of Boro on the last day, it will be either Coventry or Bristol City against Sunderland in the final for the last promotion spot. Give me Bristol City in an upset.

Not to derail but first half of your post is a derail so f it - how much is Wrexham (or any other team, for that matter) looking at in wages to stay competitive in the Championship?
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Depends on what you mean by competitive, but they probably need to get north of 15M pounds to be mid table and north of 20 to have an outside shot at yet another promotion.

https://www.capology.com/uk/championship/payrolls/

The same site says Wrexham are nearly at 11M pounds this year, which is basically relegation fight level in that league, but clearly they're going to spend if they get promoted. Shoot, they're probably going to spend even if they don't just to make sure it happens next year.

Birmingham are already on 16M which explains why they're so much better than the field.

Leicester are confirmed for relegation, Ipswich are 1 point away from relegation. The end is near with 5 matches remaining….

Leeds and Burnley both secure their spot in next season's EPL.

Looks like the only real interest is for the European spots. 3-7 are separated by 3 points.

Good info, thanks! The disparity between top of table and relegation is pretty striking - $37 MM for Leeds to $8 MM for Portsmouth. Looks like $15-20 MM keeps you mid-table, although Portsmouth is example one that low payroll can stay up. Should be interesting for the Wrexham fans to watch it play out.

How many points do Wrecham need to secure auto promotion?

Just checked and they are 2 points clear with 2 to go. A win this weekend over 4th place Charlton would put them one foot in. A win and a wycombe loss would seal it.

Standings:
Portsmouth 102
Wrexham 86
Wycombe 84
Charlton 82

I just think Wrexham making it to the EPL would be a little bit like Luton making it; possible, but given the size of the club, don't get your heart set on staying.

I am surprised Luton has done as poorly as they have in the Championship this year, though. I guess Ross Barkley is the man?

You can blame Ross Barkley for a lot of things, but hard to blame him for Luton's performance this season. He has been with Aston Villa all season long.

Oh to be a fan in Wrexham today, looks like they are gaining promotion for the third straight season. On up to Championship for next season. Amazing.

That was my point… they have sucked without him. And last year with him they were the team that I think came the closest to staying up,

Lower divisions have all completed regular season, so good time to look at who all is promoted and relegated:

Championship

Place Team. Points
1. Leeds United 100
2. Burnley 100

3. Sheffield United 90
4. Sunderland 76
5. Coventry City 69
6. Bristol 68

Leeds and Burnley both were class of division and earned their way back to EPL. Sheffield United should be the heavy favorite for 3rd promotion spot, but as an old school fan of English soccer I will be cheering for Coventry.

Upcoming Games:
Bristol v. Sheffield United--May 8
Coventry v. Sunderland--May 9

Sheffield United v. Bristol--May 12
Sunderland v. Coventry--May 13

Championship Playoff Final--May 24

Relegation Spots:
22. Luton 49
23. Plymouth Argyle 46
24 Cardiff City 44

Luton do the double dip, going from EPL to League One, dropping down on goal differential after tying Hull City with 49 points.

League One

Place Team. Points
1. Birmingham City 111
2. Wrexham 92

Wrexham's improbable run continues, going from non-league football to the Championship in three seasons, that's now three successive promotions. Stockport look to continue their run up the tables as they have been promoted up from non-league football and with a win in the playoffs would secure three promotions in 4 years.

3. Stockport County. 87
4. Charlton Athletic 85
5. Wycombe Wanderers 84
6. Leyton Orient 78

Leyton Orient v. Stockport--May 10
Wycombe Wanderers v. Charlton Athletic--May 11
Stockport v. Leyton Orient--May 14
Charlton Athletic v. Wycombe Wanderers--May 15

League One Playoff Final--May 25

Relegation Spots:
21. Crawley Town 46
22. Bristol Rovers 43
23. Cambridge United 38
24. Shrewsbury Town 33

League Two

Place Team. Points
1. Doncaster Rovers 84
2. Port Vale 80
3. Bradford City 78

4. Walsall 77
5. AFC Wimbledon 73
6. Notts County 72
7. Chesterfield 70

League Two was a dog fight with the 1st through 7th spot being tight all season. Expect the playoff to be a battle as well.

Playoffs:
Notts County v. AFC Wimbledon--May 10
Chesterfield v. Walsall--May 11

Walsall v. Chesterfield--May 16
AFC Wimbledon v. Notts County--May 17

League 2 Playoff Final--May 26

Relegation Spots:
23. Carlisle United 42
24. Morecambe 36

In the Championship Burnley only conceded 16 goals across 46 matches and didn't finish first (lost on GD), which is kind of fun.

I was captured by Sunderland with the Netflix documentary and following them a little. Good for them and hopefully they do another update season.

I watched it as well and went the other way. It's been a lot of fun seeing Sunderland flounder. They've been pretty cool though about Newcastle being the only PL team in the area and being close to elite while backed by ME oil money.

So those matches should be a lot fun. For the Magpies.

Edit - Good for Sunderland making it back.

My first ever jersey was a Sunderland jersey. Claudio Reyna. American with the combo of Sunderland being near where my UK family live (thought most are Newcastle fans) made me pull the trigger. Good luck to them.
