If one wants to find a positive (and I expect some do, while others don't), the girls have bought in and continue to fight.
This is not a personal attack--just an observation: Lots of folks say this, but why is it lauded as something notable? Every game is a competition. The athletes were recruited because they're competitors. So why would it be anything but a given that they will keep competing and not give up? If not giving up is the standard, then the standard is mediocrity.
I agree with what you are saying generally, but getting criticized as not being good enough, combined with the lack of ability to score in games, has to be extremely frustrating. I think it would be easy for the girls to give up.
Just take the last game. We start with a change in formation, which is more defensive in nature against a highly rated team. To me, it looked like the girls weren't completely comfortable with the formation in the first 10 minutes and went down 0-1 early. It showed some character to really reset after that goal and be the better team for the rest of the game (Arkansas was only able to take 1 shot the entire rest of the game after their goal while we took 10 during that same time period). That said, losing the 3rd conference game in a row without scoring has got to be difficult mentally. Hopefully the girls will continue to be the competitors everyone at this level should be, but we have all seen even professional teams in similar situations just stop giving full effort and/or make it about themselves instead of the team (the old Nick Van Exel line of "1-2-3 Cancun" comes to mind).
