I can argue it when we're at 48 teams for the first time. We're going to see a lot of bad games during group stage.

UEFA benefited less from the expansion than any other federation, going from 13 teams in 2022 to 16 this time.
Ten European teams in the top 48 of the world rankings didn't make the World Cup (versus 2 of the top 48 from all of the other federations put together).
Qualifying is a joke with the expansion, but that really doesn't apply to Europe.

At this point I think they might as well go to a 16 group, 64 team tournament. They've already ruined qualifying with this format, might as well make sure every team with a pulse gets into the field.
Sure, there would be even more matches between bad teams, but reasonably matched bad teams can still be entertaining.
