as long as it is not made into an excuse ("the Spurs only lost because of it" -- which is clearly false because the Mavs played well and won have won last night regardless

Agreed. I think the Mavs would have won last night regardless so I am much happier today that the Spurs will be well rested for G6.

Dallas has a good team and could very well win a game anyway if the right guys are hot.

Not saying Dallas wasn't great and they would probably win even if S.A. was playing great last night, but it is what it is.

Does it hurt to be that dumb Simplebay?

oh, you mean the matt bonner and roger mason that have played in a combined 163 games for the spurs this year and have averaged playing time of 20mpg??

not exactly unfamiliar with the rotation

seriously man, grow up. you got bigger problems than making excuses. but if it hold you over until game 6 to think pop instructed them "not to try" or WHATEVER other excuse you want...so be it.

but i think the spurs are still in trouble. and if the lose game 6, the mavs will still win the series. the spurs had the mavs on the ropes, and instead of laying a knockout punch, you think they didn't try for...basically....no reason

and with ginobili's nose ailing and him averaging 28% shooting with it, and duncan averaging 22% shooting and playing like he needs a walker....there's bigger issues. the pressure is on the spurs now, and their key guys are playing worse and worse as the series goes on.

Honestly fool, I am pissed that the Spurs didn't go for the throat last night. I wanted to see the series end. I think Dallas has a legit shot at winning the series. I don't need to make any excuses because Dallas played great, and I have given them their credit, as has just about everyone on this thread, and as I have the whole series. For whatever reason, the Spurs looked out of it for most of the game. And the only place Bonner and Mason are going to help the Spurs win is by being on the bench.

Keep trying to stick that square peg in a round hole. Don't forget to wear your helmet.

Why the hell would Pop throw a game? You win every elimination game that you can. I don't understand playing Mason so much, but it was either him or bogans. I'd rather have bogans; he could do a decent job on Butler.

But I just see it as a stupid coaching decision to put Mason in; not a scheme to purposely throw a game to rest his players. Hell, they would have gotten more time off in between series if they won last night. Also, Manu and Pop both were not very happy in the post game interview. And I don't know why they would put on an act. Sorry. Not buying it.

Pop definitely threw in the towel a little earlier than you normally would in a playoff game (Though 20 point leads early in the 4th often result in coaches acknowledging defeat in the regular season), but I dont think he in any way planned on half-assing it or getting blown out like that going into the game.

That being said, his players definitely called it quits as soon as Dallas started the second half on a 10-0 run. SA had no life at all after that.

the spurs wanted to win game 5. and they tried their hardest to do so. when it was over halfway through the 3rd quarter, then, maybe they started to rest.

I've been watching the Spurs for a while, pretty much the entire Duncan era. I've seen them come back from bigger deficits later in the game. It wasn't over when they started to rest, they just decided to shut it down because their odds would be better the next game. I honestly can't believe anyone out there who saw the game (although it was on NBATV, so maybe some of you didn't) really thought the Spurs were putting forth a playoff effort to win that game.

bottom line is that we Spurs fans know Pop and know his teams. They will win game 6 or game 7.

If Mavs win those both, then come back and make me eat crow. You know you won't. I know you won't.

Congrats on an awesome game 5 victory. Maybe you can hang a banner for that from the AAC, that says "we WON that game dammit, and not because the Spurs stunk or rested!"

At the beginning of the second half, they definitely had a shot at closing out the series. It seems a strange time not to have playoff intensity.

Judge- sorry you dont' know Pop, or his teams. Pay attention.

oh, and by the way, check out my thread re the media bashing of Dallas. I'm quite level headed, thank you, it's just that I think all this spewing about how good Mavs were in game 5 is kind of ridiculous.

but, if the spurs come out and play "hard" or whatever it was they "chose not" to do last night, and they win....then you'll be right.

^absolutely right, which is why it was kind of ridiculous for the Mav fans to be reading to much into the "resurrection" of the Mavs when Dampier was benched.

As I said above, though Pop and the team would never ever admit it to public, both of them knew that this team needed a mental and physical break after the prior three games.

There's a reason they've won championships besides just having the right pieces.
