Why do Mavs fans give Jason Kidd a pass?

Stunned when they traded away Steve Nash. Really stupid; this team can't be built as a set of "parts" to be taken off the shelf. They need some consistency over the years.

My opininion for what it is worth....

You can survive if your PG is not a huge scorer, but he has to be a non-scorer while driving to the basket which exposes the denfense for your other scorers. Granted, you have to finish enough that the defense respects your drive, but you can definately dish more then score (i.e. see Kidd's games from 10 years ago). The fundamental problem was Kidd NEVER showed any drive to the basket in this series.

Nothing against Berrea or Bubois (or however you spell it), but the reason they looked like they were playing at such a high level was that they were the only gaurds consistantly driving and forcing the defenses' hand which allowed them to score or open it up for others.

It will be an interesting off season this year for the Mavs.....

Im going to scream.

I really think Im going to scream.

I dont understand how fans from other teams get this, but Mavs fans dont seem to get that at all.

Ive been saying this exact thing for three years.

I had the exact same argument with my Dad this morning about the series. He's also a big Jason Kidd fan and told me that everyone else was at fault and there was no way we could put this on Kidd.

a Guy that can consistently break down the defense by getting in the paint and either scoring or dishing it off (Devin Harris, Roddy B?) is a much more dangerous offensive threat than a guy that can only shoot wide open threes.

What did the Spurs Do? They actually guarded Kidd's wide open threes and he was rendered useless.

Hey picadillo. What exactly did that Mavs get in that trade where they traded Nash?

Nothing, because it didn't happen. He was a free agent and the Suns gave him an out of this world offer. People were saying the same things about Nash that y'all are saying about Kidd. He can't win a championship because he's too much of a liability on defense.

Don't get me wrong Nash is probably one of my 3 favorite players, but the same things (besides scoring) were being said about him. The Mavs thought he was getting too old and would be out of his prime in two years. They were wrong and paid dearly for it. But for those who say Dirk's not great and Nash is, well Dirk has taken his team to the brink of a championship, while Nash has never gotten to the finals.

The Mavs did want to copy the Spurs and become a defensive-minded team. They promoted Avery Johnson to HC and greater roles were given to guys who played D like Marquis Daniels and Josh Howard. They also used the money they would have used on Nash to get Dampier to be a defensive presence in the paint.

The Mavs finished 16-2 under Avery.

While the Mavs got nothing for Nash, they effectively switched him out for Dampier.

I honestly don't know what the point of this post is.

The point of the post is saying that while Cuban has made a lot of mistakes....losing Steve Nash is not the biggest.

I never liked losing Steve Nash, but we effectively replaced him with Jason Terry, Devin Harris and Erick Dampier and became a much better team because we could finnaly rebound and play defense.

If the Patriots lost Tom Brady, but replaced him with Peyton Manning...its not that big of a loss.

Or if they replaced him with Tony Romo and added Ed Reed...not that huge of a dropoff.
