Kellso, you said

quote:
Greg Popovich is a major donor to Democrats....but Im not sure why he would get angry.

That question doesnt have much of anything to do with basketball.

Yes, that's my whole point. The NBA, Pop, and Nash have chosen to interject their own left-wing agenda into a basketball series. The NBA, Pop, and Nash are not speaking as private citizens; they are specifically speaking as representatives of a sports organization and team. So why couldn't reporters ask them about the whole gamut of politics?

Pop, for one, is a bully to reporters and would cut off forever anyone from SA who asked him something like that, even though he has invited it himself.

I guarantee that if reporters kept asking Nash and Ginobli and Pop about this issue, day after day, instead of focusing on the latest game, they would be very upset.

And Mass, I never meant that these people don't have the RIGHT to express their opinions. I meant that I would PREFER them to keep their opinions to themselves or find some other venue or NOT use the actual game itself (wearing "Los Suns" as a POLITICAL statement, not a marketing ploy). Are you really prepared for the NBA to endorse Obama in 2012 and require players to wear a "Hope and Change" patch that season?

Everyone else on the thread agrees that they have every right to speak, but they will also deal with the consequences of them using their celebrity to speak.

Me included. I even agreed with what Nash said in my first post....I just prefer to watch him play ball and not listen to what he thinks about politics.

I can guarantee that the decision to wear those jerseys was HEAVILY influenced by marketing. The Suns/NBA are increasing their hispanic market share by doing this at just the right time.

a) highly doubtful this will happen
b) I'll be disappointed if it does
c) if it doesn't affect the way the games are played, I won't care enough to quit watching

I think one very important fact is missing from this story. I do think the Suns should go with "Los Sol" on their jerseys because how cool would it be to have a palindrome on there?

and people really need to read this:

quote:
1. The new Arizona law creates a state penalty to mirror what already is a federal crime. Despite the most vile and hate-filled portrayals of proponents of the law as "Nazis," actions that have been condemned nationally by the Anti-Defamation League, it is ALREADY a federal requirement for legal aliens in the United States to carry their green card or other immigration document. The new Arizona law enforces what has been a federal crime since before World War II. As anyone who has traveled abroad knows, other nations have similar laws.
