"Just finished meeting with @chrisbosh -- great player & person. He is about winning so I focused on how w/Houston he can win a championship."

The Rockets have been targeting Bosh for months. Their pitch to Bosh is pretty straightforward. They believe he is a perfect fit with the existing talent they have on their roster and they can offer Bosh a return home to Texas.

The Rockets will also stress that if Bosh joins the Rockets, they're likely a 60-win team. If he forms a triumvirate with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in Miami, the Rockets believe the team won't have enough supporting talent to support a championship team. The Rockets believe such a pairing would produce a 45-win team.

To land Bosh, the Rockets would have to work a sign-and-trade with the Raptors. The team could offer a players like Jordan Hill, Aaron Brooks and the expiring contracts of Jared Jeffries and David Andersen for Bosh. The also have restricted free agent Luis Scola that they could offer in a sign-and-trade. The Rockets also have the right to swap picks w/Knicks in 2011 and own a protected Knicks pick in 2012. In other words, they have a ton of assets

The Rockets, at this point, remain a long shot to get Bosh. Several sources believe that the Heat are in the lead to sign Bosh.

As a Mavs fan, I hope this doesn't happen. I doubt it will, but if it did, what would Houston give up via sign and trade to make it happen?

A lineup of:

Yao (if healthy)
Bosh
Ariza
Martin
Brooks

Scola - 6th man.

...is pretty dirty. Makes them interesting. What could they offer?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
they would prolly offer battier and scola

they said they have zero intentions of trading patterson

In Morey we trust! Go get Mello, Money Morey! Scola and Hill can hold down the 4!

Trade Yao for Bosh straight up.

I've heard it would be Brooks, Battier, Jeffries, and then the Knicks picks.

rolling with starting lineup of:

lowry
martin
ariza
bosh
yao

bench:

scola, hill, hayes, budinger, taylor, and patterson. i guess pick up a back up point guard and it looks good to me.

Don't like Lowry as the starting PG, but if we can get Bosh it would be worth it.

I don't like the idea of losing Brooks either but with Bosh, Yao and Martin in the lineup, all you really need is a point that understands his role as a distributor and plays within himself.

Adding Bosh would give Houston the length and athleticism to compete with Los Angeles. A starting five of Lowry, Martin, Ariza, Bosh and Yao would be outstanding at both ends of the floor.

tshirt, you "heard" that from Chad Ford's twitter account (http://twitter.com/chadfordinsider. And if you re-read that, he was just speculating what the Rockets "could" offer. Not what they have or would offer.

I have heard that Morey's presentation included a personalized iPad with video messages from Yao, Hakeem and other Rockets greats. Obviously the presentation was heavy on analytics and how Bosh along with Houston's core has a better chance to win than a gutted NY or Miami team.

Any likely S&T deal is probably going to include: Jeffries, Battier (or Ariza), Hill, Knick's Picks plus possibly one of the Euro's the Rox have stashed overseas (Llull, Newley, etc). Andersen could be tossed in there for salary ballast if needed.

I don't think the Rox will make Brooks available in this deal, since ultimately it's not about giving the most possible to Toronto for Bosh, it's about convincing Bosh that he should want to be in Houston, and then giving Toronto just enough to help them start the rebuild.

If you start tossing big assets like Brooks or Scola into a S&T deal, then you greatly diminish the attractiveness of the Rockets team to Bosh, and that's the whole point of this dance.

Much rather trade Ariza than Battier in this deal. Honestly, Ariza does not do much for me.

Ariza is much younger than Battier.

While Shane is much smarter than Ariza, you no doubt want to trade Shane.
1. Contract:
Other teams would probably rather have 1 year of Shane as a mentor, then decide if they want to resign him. With Ariza, if he doesn't fit in, you are stuck. Shane has the more attractive contract.
2. Age
Shane is 32 and has played in over 700 NBA games.
Ariza turned 25 yesterday and has played in about 400 NBA games, and never averaged over 25mpg until last year.
Lots more tread left on the tires with Ariza.
3. Game:
Battier is one of the smartest NBA players. He makes plays with his mind. However, his offensive game is extremely limited. He will go on hot streaks from behind the line and occasionally beat a daydreaming player away from the ball, but thats about it.
Ariza can score. He makes a lot of stupid mistakes, but he still has his quickness. He wasn't as effective last year, but he was also in a new role and asked to play a really big part. I don't know if he would like it, but he would be most effective as a third-fourth option. Not asked to make big plays, just get open, play D and make the plays when the defense breaks down. I see him getting 12-15 points on that if the Rockets are fielding a team of yao/bosh/ariza/martin/brooks. That's super solid and Ariza would be much more effective in that role rather than the creating position he was much of last year.

Those starters would average 85 points a game, and I think that's a conservative prediction

Bosh-20
Yao-18
Martin-18
Brooks-16
Ariza-13

Add in Scola, Lowry, Buddinger coming off the bench

They can't get rid of Scola. We need a good white player on the team...... even if he does need a haircut and a shave.

Sounds to me like we're not really players for his services. I was hoping he'd come to Houston, but I don't think it'll happen.

New rumor out of Yahoo on the possible S&T's:

quote:
In their quest to land either of the top two free-agent power forwards – Chris Bosh or Amar’e Stoudemire – the Houston Rockets have been offering Trevor Ariza, Shane Battier and free agent Luis Scola in potential sign-and-trade packages, league sources said.

Scola obviously would have to agree to a sign-and-trade because he’s a free agent. If the Rockets can’t get either Bosh or Stoudemire, they will push forward in negotiations to re-sign Scola.

– Marc J. Spears, 12:27 a.m. ET, July 2

Can't see how that would make any sense. Maybe the details are just murky, and the guy meant they were offering Ariza or Battier, but to give up BOTH your potential starting SF's in a deal would be a bad move. You have to retain at least one of them to round out your line-up, else you're forced to try to find another starting SF with the MLE.

Losing Ariza and Battier would be a blow to the defense. But then again, Battier is getting old and Ariza never really fit well and digressed as the season went on. Budinger would be the replacement even though he's not quite ready yet.

Losing Scola hurts, but landing Bosh or Stoudemire with Chuck Hayes and Patrick Patterson in place would still improve the frontcourt if Yao stays healthy.

It just doesn't seem like any of the big time FA's are interested in Houston. I'm sure it has something to do with the uncertainty of Yao's health/return to form; but even with a backcourt of Martin/Brooks, you'd think that would be appealing for a big man.

Don't see Morey giving up that much for Bosh...that maybe what Toronto wants the Rockets to trade but it won't be what the final deal. Yoda Morey will have them mind tricked better than that.
