It'll get messy in Boston by the 2011 season when they are paying Pierce and Garnett a combined $40 mil and they are both completely washed up.

Its a good deal for both sides. Longer term contract for Pierce and he ends his career with the C's. The fourth year is an option. With two years still left with Garnett, the C's have a legit chance to win the East again and this deal frees up cap space to sign some new guys. Ray Allen wants to return, but we'll see about that. They need to sign a big man with the Perkins injury and Rasheed gone. Eventually the tank will dry up, but I think the C's with the right move or two to solidify the bench will be a really solid team for another couple seasons.

I'm with DC on this one. If, and that's a big IF, the Celtics were going to win with the current lineup, it was last year. It didn't happen, and now the downhill slide will begin for them.

And Jesus Shuttleworth just resigned.

Ray Allen and the Celtics have agreed upon a two-year, $20 million deal, his agent Lon Babby confirmed.

The second year of Allen's deal is a player option.
