I understand that they are over the luxury tax, but wouldn't he actually only cost $13mil + whatever that would put you over the luxury tax? A big number no doubt, but $84 mil? Maybe more like $25mil?

Well, this year, if they got him, they would be about 16mm over the tax line. That's assuming they can't pawn off another salary.

But I don't think you can solely blame Jefferson for that. You aren't going to say that Dirk costs you 32mm this year, are you?

Ultimately, you can blame the tax on whatever you want, but I would blame it on the overpaying of Kidd and Marion while having to take on guys like Carroll to make deals work.

But still, do you want a 51 win team for 73mm or a 60 win team for 96mm?

I heard Donny say on the radio a couple weeks ago that the Damp chip is good until the first game of the 2010/2011 regular season. Don't know if it matters because it looks like any deal that could be made is drying up, but you never know what some of these NBA owners will do if they are strapped for cash.

That's good to know. I couldn't find an exact date, but generally they are July 15th, August 1st or Sept 1st. Looks like Cuban has until ~Halloween to get something done.
