Trade him and either one of the PG's or Williams to the Clippers for Jordan.

Yao only has trade value now because he has a large expiring contract. A max contract with 3 years left on it for an injury-prone player is not nearly as attractive as trade bait.

it's not just an expiring contract, but it's an expiring contract that's almost entirely covered by insurance. so you not only get cap space after the season, you also save a considerable amount of cash the rest of this season.

Only 8mm of 17mm of it is covered by insurance. The Rockets can add an additional 3mm in cash. Then, the Rockets could take back less in salary than they receive. Something like 13-14mm.

yeah, but the rockets have already played 30 games, so (at least theoretically), haven't they already paid 36.6% (or about $6.5mil) of that $17.7mil? meaning that if he were traded today, yao would "only" be owed about $11.2mil by his new team, 8mil of which is covered by insurance.

so if the rockets can kick in another $3mil, it would seem as though an acquiring team could effectively save $11.2mil.

but maybe i have this all wrong?

Yao only played 5 games this year. The Rockets have already been collecting on that 8mm.

With rumors out there indicating that the Blazers might be looking to deal Camby, I would be curious to know if the Rockets could make the numbers work with his and Yao's contract (plus whatever pieces) to facilitate a swap...

I was at the game last night, and the Rockets have more talent than some give them credit for, and a solid offensive and defensive presence down low could propel them into the playoffs...

Also, Camby lives in Pearland in the off season...I think he would accept a trade to Houston...

according to jonathan feigan, that's not correct. the insurance policy doesn't kick in until yao has missed a certain number of games and, again according to feigan, he has not yet hit that magic number.

Camby, who signed a two-year, $21 million extension with Portland this spring, also seems somewhat disinterested in being moved all together. Camby would like to remain in Portland, but might be open to a trade to Houston, where he lives in the offseason.

A large reason why Camby doesn't want to move is because he moved his family to Portland and enrolled his two young daughters in school there.
