Bottom line, considering the Ags lost probably their 3 best offensive players last season, I think the offensive coaching problems many love to complain about is greatly overblown.
Must be Turge's hired TexAgs observer.
***I don't dispute that overall, Turgeon did an acceptable and maybe even moderately good job this year, mainly with our defense.
But come on. We did not run plays. Our offense on 75% of possessions went as follows:
-Make 4-5 passes outside the time line with no one cutting or coming off a screen.
-Throw it to Lobeau 10 feet from the basket and everyone stand still.
-Throw it back out to the time line.
-Dribble around until there are less than 10 seconds on the shot clock. Everyone watch the man dribbling.
-Throw up a contested jump shot and pray it goes in or that we get a tip in on the rebound.
-Occasionally run a pick and roll 22 feet from the basket with the pick setter never rolling toward the basket about 90% of the time---what the hell is that about?
That is not a motion offense, I don't care what you're used to.

In fact, when you consider that Khris Middleton went from bench player to the team's best scorer and a player many consider a legit first round NBA prospect in 2012 in one season just speaks really loudly about Turgeon's coaching.
***Middleton may very well play in the NBA one day.
However:
1. He really was not a bench player last year. Even before Roland went down and he became the starter, he was still playing over half the game, and sometimes played more than Roland.
2. Saying he is our best scorer, while accurate, is an overblown compliment. He averaged 14 points in 30 minutes per game while shooting 45% from the field and 36% from the arc. Those numbers aren't bad at all, but they certainly aren't impressive either.
3. 2012 draft projections are worthless at this point. If he were that great of NBA prospect, he'd at least be projected in the 2nd round this year. Any obvious NBA guys like Thompson who are staying in college next year will bump him back even more.
4. People were saying Middleton might be NBA worthy at the end of last season (mostly TexAgs, but a few commentators).
--Bottom line, Middleton improved slightly from last season, but it wasn't that much of a climb. As you pointed out, his stats mainly went up because we just didn't have anyone else to put the ball in the basket.
It isn't like Turgeon has developed Middleton's offensive game any. He is still a rather average jump shooter, has no post up game, and no off the dribble game.

Now back to the point of the thread.
There are very few college teams who run any type of X's and O's offense. (ours included)
Even the worst NBA teams get most of their points off of set plays and swinging the ball around based on the defense's rotation.
