The Clippers could have traded Baron Davis and their number one pick in the 2011 NBA Draft that was used to acquire Mo Williams and Jamario Moon in a similar deal for the expiring contract of Yao Ming, according to Bill Simmons.

As enticing as that draft pick would have been, what a cluster^%$# of a situation that would have created. Davis's big contract, along with relegating Lowry to the bench or a super-small line-up, plus another old guy with the Youth of the Rockets team.

Just seems like a bad, bad fit.

The only thing I could think of is that this was a contingency type of deal. Where IF Morey could nab a superstar in a trade, perhaps also trading Lowry in the process, then he would have taken on BDiddy to complete the line-up. Even then...eesh.

Bill Simmons the consummate Trade Machine dork tweeted this. I wouldn't read too much into it. I think he was just saying they could have had a salary come off the books and gotten a real PG (not Mo Williams) next season.

Only problem being that there aren't any point guards available in free agency.

Aaron Brooks (restricted)
Andre Miller (team option)
TJ Ford
And then it gets really ugly.

TJ Ford and Andre Miller are both much better fits than Mo Williams as far as PG's go... and then they still have Davis' salary off the books.

I don't know if Miller would fit in with the Clippers very well...they need a PG that can distribute and hit open 3s, not someone who dominates the ball like Miller does. I think Mo might be a little bit better fit.

I don't watch Ford too much but from what I've gathered it seems like he's a pretty ineffective PG. Maybe they're counting on the growth of Bledsoe, how many years does Mo have left on his deal?

For a career, Andre Miller's been a good passer and not that dominant on the ball. Mo Williams is a good shooter with little court vision. The Clippers have 2 elite scorers right now. They just need a dude with decent court vision to get them the ball. TJ Ford can do that.

Can he? Is this if we ignore the fact that he will probably miss 60 games a year?
