I'm calling it now. Six games remaining is not enough time to get it back together. This year's ship has sunk. Even when the games really mean something and the Spurs have all their guns, they are wilting badly.

That said.....

What moves do they make this offseason, assuming the NBA even plays next season?

I think the Richard Jefferson experiment has to be over. They
need to find a SF that can contribute while Anderson grows.

Guard positions are okay, not a whole lot of need to do anything other than tell Hill to grow a pair.

They could probably use another backup PF/C to come in for rebounding & defense. They don't need anyone amazing, just somebody to play around 10 minutes or in certain matchup situations (or when Duncan inevitably goes out with injury). Splitter / Blair / Old Dyess / Bonner is not enough to get you through stretches without Duncan.

this line was so stupid, it doesn't deserve a single serious reply until may. what a dunce.

Let's wait until the offseason, Mr. Chamberlain.

I forgot that rule about fans having to wait until the offseason to talk about offseason.

You have been posting like this all week. Give it a rest. If you keep it up you're not allowed to jump back on the wagon come playoff time and the real spurs come to play.

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. if they suck so bad, stop ****ing watching. go watch baseball, crybaby.

they lost the first four games because of injuries, the next against the 2nd place celtics, and then the second game of a back to back on the home court of a desperate team. IT'S NOT THAT ****ING BAD.

Obi you're melting down in a different type of way.

2001_2005 is just being a realist. you're playing the violin on the Titanic my friend. your knee-jerk defenses are not helping.

right now the Spurs' title hopes are a band-aid. Rip it off quickly, that way when they get bounced in the first round it won't hurt as much.

this thread is definitely not a meltdown thread

aggie0105, i'll tell you what.

since you are constantly saying to stick a fork in the spurs, i'll make a wager with you.

if the spurs get bounced in the first round, i'll never post on the basketball forum again. ever. if they win, you don't post on the basketball forum until the finals end.

simpletard****face, my offer still stands, but i know what a giant vagina you are, so keep punking out.

Well, since this thread exists...I, personally, want to see the Spurs grab Arron Afflalo.

Dude is Bruce Bowen w/ even more of an offensive game...of course, we might need to hire a hitman to take out RJ.

In response to all of the dbags who think the spurs are done for the season, they're just tanking to avoid the Griz in the first round...I mean, come on, do you think the spurs are afraid of playing the limp wristed ***got mavericks in the 2nd round? get real, jason "the jet" terry will cry himself to sleep when he misses 90% of his three pointers and Dirk Nodickski gets shut down by the red rocket. By the time the WCF roll around, andrew buymenewkness will have torn a muscle we never knew existed, kobe will have had his knees drained 14 times, and pau gasol will cry about not getting enough touches.

Spurs win everything, ever, the world cries, and Duncan dominates everybody as he takes the whole season off, learning a lesson from Robert "give me them rings" Horry.

I cannot fathom why Pop will still only play Bonner (even when he's missing), but refuses to play Splitter at all even though he does very well in limited time (especially considering it's hard to get into rhythm with erratic playing time).

As for Jefferson, he's stuck here for at least 2 more years, until his deal becomes an expiring contract.

If you want to make a ridiculous bet then Simpletard is your partner.

Personally, I don't think the Spurs will lose in the 1st round. I just stated that at this point, the possibility is a threat, whereas a month and a half ago it was not. If the Spurs hang on to the #1 seed, I expect them to lose to LA in the WCF

If LA grabs the 1 seed, I expect the Spurs to lose to Dallas in round 2 or get swept by LA in the WCF.

That would be awesome, but I'm betting this will be a pipe dream because he is restricted. And there's no way Denver lets him go for anything the Spurs have to offer, unless they offered Gary Neal and something else that intrigued Denver. At that point, it might not even be worth it, depending on what the Spurs would be giving up.

Yeah, I keep hoping there will be some franchise (cough - Knicks - cough) who would be dumb enough to take him off the Spurs' hands. I don't see it happening though. He has lost his ability as a scorer and is a defensive liability. Not a whole lot of demand for that anywhere.

just got back from the game. if someone can get blair fired up for the playoffs, this team will be just fine.

The big guy from Denver (Mozgov?) looked like he might develop into something worth having...only problem is Denver still has him for 2 years on the cheap.

I understand your frustration, but I believe this is b/c Bonner spreads the court-- even when he's missing.

Splitter is a traditional big. This is duplication of Dice's and Duncan's skill sets, albeit with even less jump shooting.
Ulrich

Bonner was actually working hard on the boards today, which made him loosen up a little on those threes. When all you do is shoot threes and you aren't hitting, that has to weigh on your mind... contributing in other ways takes some of the pressure off.
aggie_2001_2005

Bonner is fine if you can play him 10 minutes a game, and just use him as a spot up shooter. But if you need him to play 25 minutes, cover a legit post player and get an occasional rebound, you got problems.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Keep
Timmy is still a quality player but not a star who can carry the team.
McDyess should be getting about 10 mpg, but will probably retire.
Splitter will develop into a solid NBA player.
Blair is a role player.
Hill is a great backup pg that may yet mature into more of a force.
Neal is a great scorer and pesky defender who should be starting over Jefferson.
Parker, in spite of this series, is still a good player. Still wouldn't mind cutting him loose for value.
Manu is Manu, keep him because at least he cares.
Danny Green looked good in his minutes, lets see how the offseason goes.
James Anderson, see Danny Green.

Cut
Bonner again proves to be invisible in the playoffs.
Jefferson sucks, he needs to be cut or at least relegated to the bench.
Quinn is ok, but not a playoff caliber player

That's 3 spots to fill with SF and post players, 4 if Dice retires.

In my opinion, the Spurs lack a real defensive identity and get nothing from the SF position. Pick up a defensive enforcer at SF, get another young post with promise, and tie the team's identity and pride to playing Spurs defense. Da'Sean Butler may help out a lot.

I'd rather keep Parker and deal Hill away, but I know the financials of that don't really work to your advantage.

If they want to make one more run at it next year (assuming the NBA has a season), they might be able to work some kind of offseason magic. I just don't see it working though, unless Duncan agrees to a huge pay cut.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I worry that Parker is about to start missing a ton of games with injuries. Plus, as soon as he loses a step he's done and he has been in the league for a long time. I believe Hill will do well as a starter.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Duncan take a pay cut.

If they were serious about trying to win another championship, they need to bargain Tony and some players for a dominant big man. If they are going to win it with Duncan on the floor, he needs to take the role he forced the Admiral into way back when.

I believe Hill is more than a serviceable point guard. Manu will be Manu. It is pretty obvious that if the Spurs want to really compete for a title, they have to get bigger and stronger on the front line.

That is, unless they can find some shooters who don't vanish come post season time.

i got tired of punking Obi, and he virtually punks himself. i didn't want to take his money because i dont need it and wagering money on texags is retarded, nor run him off the board so he could meltdown in classic fashion.

thanks for not letting me down Obi. you're too predictable.
