Internetfan and awinlonghorn have already stated the case.
but I will punch somone in the mouth that tries to lay the Mavs playoffs woes of the past 4 years on Dirk.
Since 2008....**** it....I will just go ahead and say since we acquired Jason Kidd.....DIRK NOWITSKI IS THE ONLY MAVS PLAYER TO STEP HIS GAME UP IN THE PLAYOFFS.
The only exception to this is Josh Howard in the 2009 series against San Antonio.
Dirk had some great teamates early in his career, but since Steve Nash left in 2004 these have been his best players: Josh Howard, Jason Terry, Jerry Stackhouse, Devin Harris, Caron Butler.
These guys are all good players (and these guys were actually very good complimentary players between 2005-07)
but lets compare Dirk's complimentary players to other championship contenders from this year and past years.
Boston-
Best player: Paul Peirce
Complimentary: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo
Miami
Best Player: Lebron James
Complimentary: Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh
Los Angeles:
Best Player: Kobe Bryant
Complimentary: Paul Gasol, Lamar Odom, Ron Artest, Andrew Bynum
San Antonio
Best Player:Tim Duncan
Complimentary: Manu Ginobli, Tony Parker
Oklahoma City
Best Player: Kevin Durant
Complimentary: Rusell Westbrook
Orlando:
Best player: Dwight Howard
Complimentary: Jason Richardson, Gilbert Arenas, Rashard Lewis, Turkolu
Chicago
Best Player: Derrick Rose
complimentary: Carlos Boozer, Loul Deng, Joakim Noah
Phoenix from a few years ago
Best Player: Steve Nash
Complimentary: Amare Stoudamire, Sean Marion
Look at that list......its not even close.
My point being that all of these really good teams have at least two all star caliber players.....which the Mavs have not had since maybe 2006 or 2007.
and really even in those years when the Mavs were really good....Dirk was still the only real All Star on those teams.
