They are bigtime Spurs homers, but at least Sean Elliott is funny most the time. I don't care for Bill Land.

I was listening to the game on TV in the background while I did some crap around the house.

My first thought was "Wow these guys are homers" then I thought "I'm in Dallas, it's probably the Spurs local announcers."

Glad it's the case that this is the Spurs local announcer. Otherwise hearing the one guy who screams every thing "AANNNDDD GenoooooBBBBLLIIII went to PEEEEEEEeeeeEEE!!!"

And "HEEEE ddddrrrriIIIZBBBBLLLLeesss.....DOOOOOWWWWN COUUURTTTT" was getting really annoying.

They need to STFU with all this Manu Ginobli/Willis Reed ****.

Yes, but these were especially bad saying we in almost every sentence when referring to the Spurs.

Sean Elliot hit the memorial day miracle. He can refer to the team as "we" until the day he dies.

I prefer the December 9, 2004 game with Tracy McGrady scoring 13 in the final 35 seconds.

I've watched a lot of regional basketball broadcasts over the years and Elliot and Land are not even close to being the worst homers. They root for their team but they also give the other teams a lot of props. These guys are true basketball fans and not just Spurs fans.

It is stupid that NBATV has to use the home team broadcast though. Can't the NBA afford to fly two other announcers out there? That's just sad. If they insist on putting playoff games on their network they really should step up and deliver a better product. The Spurs broadcast is meant for Spurs fans, it had to be terrible for Memphis fans to watch that.

No Rockets fan has any right to complain about the Spurs' broadcast team. At least the Spurs guys occasionally mention that there might be another team on the court.

EDIT: but I agree that NBATV needs to do their own broadcast. Spurs graphics, Spurs fan interviews, Spurs everything, that's not good for a national broadcast.

As a Spurs fan I like the December 9, 2004 game as well....championship season for the Spurs.

Yeah it was ridiculous that they never seemed to show any Grizzlies highlights at all. I am not talking about halftime, but I mean after a good play they wouldn't show it again.

I wish the Spurs were always on NBATV.

If you want to hear about the other team playing the SPURS watch TNT, ESPN or ABC and you will get all the coverage you can stomach of the SPURS opponent.

Your problem should be with this whole "NBA TV" phenomenon. All that money for an extra station that's worthless between June and November, and they can't even produce their own broadcast of a playoff game.

Sean and Bill Land are payed to broadcast to a Spurs audience. Just like Bill Worrell and Clyde Drexler. The difference is Bill Worrell sounds like he's never been near a basketball court before, whereas Elliot and Land are both fairly knowledgeable.

Did they know they were being broadcasted nationally?

Sean Elliot = Dave South + the ability to talk about what he's seeing.

sean elliot does spend a lot of time talking as if he is playing in the game, but he also has brilliant moments where he breaks down what's going on and what pop was trying to do. i like him.

It took all of 10 seconds into the broadcast to realize it was the Spurs local team. It was the first time I had ever heard this broadcast team.

This makes no sense. examples...

Marv Albert = on the Nets payroll
Joel Meyers = on the Lakers payroll
Mike Breen = on the Knicks payroll
Hot Rod Hunley = used to be on the Jazz payroll
Chick Hearn = used to be on the Lakers payroll


all examples of good broadcasters. more emphasis and emotion on their respective covered team, without being a complete circle jerk and basically discrediting everything the other team is doing (see: Sean Elliot/Bill Worrell)

are those national broadcasters? or broadcasters to one specific region?

Coke....Joel Meyers contract is not being renewed by the Lakers at the end of this year. Maybe if the Spurs are lucky he will come back to SA

That's funny you guys are comparing Elliot to the Alberts, Meyers, Breens and Hearns of the world. Elliot is the analyst. Those other guys are the game callers and they are supposed to be more professional. Marv Albert calls the local Nets broadcast a little differently than an ABC broadcast. Most of these guys are good enough to cater to the audience.

Every freaking team in the league has some retired player as a local analyst and they're all homers. I've watched a lot of League Pass and Elliot is at least knowledgable. He would be an ESPN analyst right now if he didn't mind the travelling. There are many worse and Matt Bullard is one of them. The last few games I've seen that he called, he basically blamed the refs for everything. Very professional.
