Dirk is top 5. Unbelievable that a guy in the league 13 years is getting so much better in every facet of his game.

Reason why I asked is someone said Dwayne was a top 5 player and I wasn't sure if he was.

I was hard to chose between Durant and Rose. The only reason I left Durant out of the top 5 is because he needs to improve on other aspects of his game other than scoring.

Plus he's a dirty sip.

i just find it hard for anyone to say dirk AND rose are both better than durant. i think he is better than both of them.

After watching this year's playoffs, I think Zack Randolph has entered the top 10 and could be a top 5 down the road.

There's no way 2010 Kobe is down 0-2 after playing 2 games at home vs. this Mavs team. He's no longer a top 5 player. Top 10? Absolutely. But I'll say it now: next season, he's still a legit all star, but he's going to have a KG-like drop in production. The tire's going bald quickly. The league notices and agrees too. Next time you watch a Lakers game at crunch time, notice how closely the defender is in his grill and imagine how it was just last season.

i agree, dirk is unstoppable....offensively. however, if this was a best scorer thread (which it is not) durant would still win. this is a top 5 players in the league thread, which dirk not a part of.

Dirk has been consistently top 10 for the past decade which is amazing but I can't find a year where he was ever top 5. He has been the best PF since 09 when KG got hurt

All five are terrors on both ends. Not saying the others are bad...just saying these guys are better.

Lakers being down 0-2 is no argument for Kobe not being on this list. If he hits the 3 at the end of Game 1 (which 75% of viewers likely thought was in), this series is completely different. While he missed that very important shot, he still has his array of unguardable jumpers (watch any Laker game and you'll see them). I can also think of multiple occasions in that awful game 2 by their team where he made an impact on the defensive end.

It's seriously beyond comical that you think there's some giant disparity between the two. Pretty stupid comment, seeing as people appreciate different aspects of what these athletes can do.

Having such different styles of play makes them hard to compare. They're both in that top echelon of NBA players, having to only pick 5 when the difference in skill level and impact on the game is so minuscule makes it a tough choice.

Dirk elevates his game in the post-season, and has pretty elite company when you look at his career playoff stats. I tend to prefer the precise skill in his game. His arsenal of move/counter-move shots kind of reminds me of the fade-away/jumper version of the Dream Shake, although not nearly as awesome. Both nearly unguardable though.
