This kid needs a serious piece of humble pie shoved down his throat. Repeat offender now too. Disgusting.

JJBarea takes down the Lakers dynasty. How embarrassing. They had no answer for him. The cheapshot just rubs it in.

Cue the Bynum+change for DHoward rumors

I think what JJ Barea did to the Lakers is why the Spurs fans were glad to see the Rich Man's JJ Barea traded to NJ for Kidd.

He was a repeat offender before today. This is his 3rd time to pull this ****. If there was justice he'd be gone for a long long time.

Sadly, Bynum is taking the Karl Malone route of cheapshotting.

I think he's gone for 10 games, maybe more.

Screw 10 games at the start of the season. A true punishment would be suspending him for playoff games next year (or whenever he is next in the playoffs).

He should get a regular season and post season suspension.

This is the third time Bynum has done something like this, so you don't know what the league might do. His postgame interview didn't do him any favors. I guess we'll find out soon.

The short suspensions definitely aren't sending a message. Take his last suspension and add a zero to it, then check to see if the message is starting to sink in.

What did he say in the interview? I missed that.

in the interview, he just showed no remorse at all and apparently thinks it was just good, hard foul.

i think at one point, the interviewer asked if he was disappointed in himself and he said no.

players don't care about suspensions. They only care about money. Until you really hit them hard (500K plus), then they'll keep doing it.

Am I the only one that thinks everyone is overreacting about this play? It was definitely a cheap shot and Bynum deserved to be ejected and probably suspended for a game. But it's not like he took the dude's head off. It was a forearm to the chest. So many people, on here and on TV/radio, are acting like he took a full swing at Barea's head and drove it down into the court. Mike Greenberg called it the "biggest punk move ever" on ESPN Radio this morning. Really? Isn't that a bit of over sensationalism? **** worse than that happens every other week in hockey. Hell, it probably wasn't even the cheapest shot of this series.

It was a cheap shot in that you don't do that in a game when the game is basically over.

Its one thing to do a hard foul in a tight series, early on to send a message about going in the paint, wanting to establish a physical game, etc.

That was just Bynum being pissed and going after the smallest guy.

It was a punk move, was it the worst one I have ever seen...no, but it is up there.

I would take that same line of thought if:

1. The Lakers weren't a couple minutes away from being swept.
2. It was earlier in the series and he was wanting a hard foul to send a message (similar to what he did to Tony Parker a few years back.)
3. If he didn't have a history of cheap shots with multiple game suspensions.
4. If he hadn't done the exact same ***** move earlier in his career and he collapsed the guys freaking lung.

It was still completely a non-basketball move. He sent a much bigger player (Wallace) to the hospital with the same move. Barea's arm was extended and he was completely vulnerable. And the timing of the move it what sets it over the top. I'm all for physical play and settling things on the court. But it was already settled on the court and his season was over. Magic cheap-shot elbowed Isiah in game 5 of a 2-2 series, setting a tone for the remaining games.

Could have easily ended JJs season and cost Dallas a chance not to mention revenue. Agree 100% with GS' points.

The context of the situation plays a key role in the severity of the cheap shot. See GS's post.

What bothers me the most is that he's a repeat offender going after the smallest guy on the court (who happens to be completely defenseless), then acting like he's some kind of bad ass. What a punk little *****. There's so much cowardice in every aspect of that statement, it reminds me of Melo punching that guy in the back of the head and then running away.

Acting like you're tough **** after exposing yourself as a giant puzzy just makes me laugh sometimes.

I'm not excusing the play. Like I said, it was a cheap shot and he deserved to be kicked out and probably suspended for a game. I think people calling for 10 game suspensions are being ridiculous.

If you compare the Artest foul to this foul it's night and day. So, while 10 games is excessive, I think between 2-5 games would be very reasonable.

The most impressive thing was the restraint shown by the Mavs.

It's called not having a single enforcer on the team. Not saying they should've taken out Bynum's leg, but it would have been nice to see at least someone aside from an aging Jason Kidd be visibly angry about what happened. It's also pretty telling that the person that talked the most **** during the game was J.J. Barea. But that's the make-up of this Mavs team, I guess.

With that said, it was a completely dirty play and given the stage of the game with the outcome decided, it should warrant a good suspension. He's been playing dirty/immature since his rookie year. See bump against Shaq during the first LA/Miami Christmas game. See "Pass me the ****ing ball!" his first year. They're all on YouTube somewhere. Dude is a first class *****.

It seems that some of you guys aren't paying attention that this guy has already put this same move on guys twice before. The first time Gerald Wallace went to the hospital with a collapsed lung, the second time Michael Beasley had to miss games because he fell on his hip after the contact.

This is not about taking a cheap shot. This is about a guy that is 7 feet tall, nearly 300 pounds, repeatedly attacking guys when they are totally vulnerable in the air with a forearm in the chest to knock them to the floor. Most of the time the injury is caused when they hit the floor, unprotected not from the contact with Bynum.

In last nights case, it was even worse because there was nothing about that act that had anything to do with the basketball game that the outcome had been decided. Because of this and the fact that Bynum had no remorse, he should be suspended for multiple games without pay. Fining a guy $50,000 that makes millions is like fining us $5.00 for a speeding ticket. Take 10-25% of his salary away and I bet you get his attention a little then.

Maybe then he will be a little bit remorseful, even it is only becuase his bank account isn't as fat as it would have been.

Did you not see Tyson Chandler being held back on the bench? I'm pretty sure he would've "enforced" if need be.

Homer opinion aside. You have to drop the hammer and send a message. What he did was embarrassing to the lakers, Phil Jackson, and the league. You have to do something to a repeat offender with obvious malicious intent that will make everyone think twice about ever doing something as pitiful as that again.

As like 8 people have already stated, there's no point to doing something like that. I get trying to send someone a message by giving them a hard foul. You can foul someone hard going for the ball. It's also far less likely to harm them, it'll just make them think twice about driving the lane.

Throwing a forearm into somebody's arm is just bush league. This isn't freaking MMA, and players don't treat it that way. So Barea was completely defenseless. This is the third time it's happened, and in my opinion it's worse than the punch Artest threw at the fan that got him suspended for a season.

Plus, it wasn't even the continuation of a foul. Sometimes you foul someone, and in the heat of the moment you just follow through. It's rightfully called a flagrant, but even that's different from intentionally throwing a forearm into a guy's chest.

What? Cardinal basically had to tackle Tyson Chandler to keep him from coming off the bench and going after Bynum.
