How will this change Dirk's Legacy. IMO this would mean that Dirk > Lebron+Wade+Bosh. Would this move him into a top 15 player of all time?

If Dirk-led Mavericks can somehow get past the Cerberus-Heat of Lebron Wade and Bosh, I think it would have to seriously improve his standing in the Pantheon of NBA greats.

Lebron/Kobe are largely considered to be the greatest of the post-Jordan era, and Wade is one of Dirk's former demons. Bosh is just ugly. But for a team where he's the clear alpha dog to conquer both of those players at the same time, in the Finals, would be a serious feat of greatness.

Going to be tough for him. He's going to carry an enormous burden. The formula for winning in the NBA is 2+ A-list stars on one team. For Dirk to get his ring he's going to have conquer the status-quo.

Yes. But that's a big if. I'm just happy that he made the Finals a 2nd time, taking down the champs to get there. Huge redemption story. But no way he takes down Lebron + Wade this year.

I disagree.

I consider Shaq, Kobe and Tim Duncan as the Kings of the post Jordan era....for the simple fact they have rings......a bunch of them.

All three of them with different teams and different teamates.

If the Mavs win it all this moves Dirk up really high.

If you look at every NBA champion since 1980 can you name a team with a weaker second best player then Jason Terry?

1994 Houston Rockets are the only team that comes to mind.

Almost every other NBA champion has at least two (not just all stars) but two perennial ALL NBA types.

Regardless of the outcome he is the second greatest foreign born player of all time (behind Hakeem). If he wins, that will certainly help his legacy, but not sure if it moves him in front of too many people.

Kellso-

You are exactly right and that 1994 Rockets team is one of the reasons that Hakeem was so amazing.

Obviously this can be debated ad nauseum. Who people anoint as the "greatest since Jordan" really means absolutely nothing to me, because I don't care .

I was really just using it as a reference to say that Lebron is really good. Easily one of the top 5 in the NBA today and many people think he'd be #1 on a list of current NBA players. The point is that Dirk is going to have to beat 2 All-NBAers, in their primes, on the same team. That's going to mean something if he's able to pull it off.

The big difference with him and the upper elite players is defense. Dirk has never been great on the defensive side.

Kellso, who was the BEST player for the Pistons that beat LA back in 2004? I'd argue that their second best player would be the worst. Not calling you out, just sports debating.

That's a weak argument. All 5 of those Pistons starters are better than Terry. Maybe not young Tayshaun Prince.

Judge took the answer right out my mouth.

While its true the 2004 Pistons did not have a true Alpha Omega Superstar (and they did beat two Superstarts who were still in their Primes)

Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace, Rip Hamilton and Ben Wallace are all much more effective players then Jason Terry.

Obviously Wallace isnt the scorer, but you are talking about a player that won Defensive Player of the Year.

This is why I worry Dallas can't win the series.

Me too, buts
Its happened before.

1995 Houston (Hakeem) d Orlando (Shaq, Penny Hardaway)

2004 Detroit (?) d Los Angeles (Shaq and Kobe)

You could even throw in last year

Los Angeles (Kobe and Gasol) d Boston (Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Peirce, Rondo)

and the jury is out on whether or not people conisder Gasol a superstar.
