I was thinking about it on the drive home and I honestly can't find an excuse that softens this loss.

They rebounded better.
They played better defense.
They hit their open shots.
They fought for the loose balls.
They drained the clutch shots.


Miami was just the better team tonight. I've been hating on Haywood all playoffs, I honestly think him and Marion were the only two guys who really brought it.

There is no reason we should be out rebounded that badly by that team. If I could fix any one of the many problems we had tonight, it would be the rebounding.

Dallas just hasn't faced a team as athletic as the heat. Miami put enough pressure on dirk that made it tough for him specially in the fourth and he was essentially shut down, down the stretch. Gotta give credit to miamis d.

Wasn't really about their defense down the stretch imo. It was about their offense. Someone on the previous page mentioned run-stoppers and I think that's exactly what it was. Wade and Lebron hit some absolute money shots.

Granted, Haslem did a great job denying Dirk. If you noticed, when Haslem was guarding Dirk in a back-to-the-basket situation, he played him on whichever hip was pointing away from the basket, seemingly giving him a free spin to the hoop. There was always a help defender waiting for Dirk to spin, who would immediately step up. While Dirk didn't necessarily play in to the trap every time, I think it threw him off his game. If he spins away into his one-legged fade away jumper, he's playing right in to Haslem. If he spins toward the basket, he's playing right in to the trap. Great design by Spoelstra (read as: Riley).

I won't mind at all. I hope they burn the whole town down. I've been to Miami many times and never have liked it. I feel like I need a shower in hand sanitizer when I leave.

I'm not a Dallas homer. I don't even like basketball. I think the referees (rigged or not) have far too much power. They are the only officials in any sport who can directly put points on the board for either team at their whim.

I started a thread at the beginning fo the playoffs about the same thing. Watch game 2. You can predict what will happen before it happens. The NBA is like WWF to me. Good entertainment, but entirely predictable.

I am NOT a Mavs fan. I am NOT a basketball fan. I would rather the Mavs win this series because I'm tired of the Heat being shoved down my throat by the NBA and ESPN.

Exactly...maybe people should point to players like Terry, Barea, and Peja and not the refs...just at thought.

Mavs missed a lot of easy shots. Could have easily won this game. Played pretty solid defense, Miami just looked better in the 2nd half. Not freaking out or concerned really.

the Dallas bench did NOT do what they've done all playoffs.... If they don't sow up, then this series is over

Sucks to lose, but I think Game 2 is what will define if this is gonna be a series or not. Time to see how the Mavs responds.

Mavs missed a whole lot of wide open shots. Peja was bricking threes. JJ bricked layups and jumpers. Dallas as a team had to have missed 6 or 7 shots at the rim. The Heat did not pull away until around a minute left. Acting like the Heat dominated the game is revisionist history.

Prepyag- you should remove the quote of my statement. It does not support your assertion about mavs fans. I have said from the beginning that refs dictate games in the NBA, not just against the Mavs.

Seems like Mav fans want to say they just had a bad shooting night but played pretty good defense. I think the Heat were the #2 defense in the league and best defense the mavs have seen thus far (especially on the perimeter) so you should probably credit the heat in that department. And the heat can say they had a bad shooting night too as they were only at 37% well into the 4th quarter.

Just because dirk looks clumsy and barrea flops like a fish doesn't mean it's a foul. I'd be concerned that lebron and wade really weren't that aggressive to the hoop. I can't imagine the complaining when the freethrows are even or are in the heats favor.

Mavs are saying its a bad shooting night, because we primarily got all the same looks we've been knocking down.

Kind of relevant.....San Antonio had the fourth highest rating for Game one behind Miami, Dallas and West Palm Beach. Weird.

They just said on Ben and Skin that the Heat's bench had a 10 point advantage over the Mavs bench in game 1. Only time all year they had +10 or more in bench margin.

If that's going to happen all series, it's going to be a sweep.
