Do you think that playing verbal footsie with Mark Jackson constitutes entertainment? I don't. That said, I dispute the entire notion that he's there to entertain. If they wanted entertainment out of that chair, they'd hire an entertainer, not somebody who supposedly knows how to analyze the game. The name of the job is "analyst," after all.

But hey, maybe if they brought in the latest idiot American Idol winner to *sing* the color commentary, that would be an improvement.

To AgNatural:

YOU

ARE

WRONG.

He wasn't joking or being sarcastic!

JVG = Mavs hater. That's just how it is.

That's actually not what he said, or at least not how he said it, but don't let a thing like reality mess up a good argument.

I believe what he said was that if a player dribbles a ball out of bounds, and the ball is in mid-dribble (i.e., not touching the guy's hand) while his foot is on the line, then it shouldn't be an out-of-bounds call. I suppose his rationale was that this was the same as jumping OB to save a live ball or to throw it off a defender. Because Chalmers was not physically touching the ball during his dribble when his foot was on the line, Van Gundy's argument was that it should not have been an OB call.

I made up my mind about that when he quipped "Those playoff shirts should say that the time was 5 years ago" during the Portland or Lakers series. Funny comment, but still a ******** comment.

That being said, I don't care if he likes the Mavs or not as long as he calls an honest game. Generally, he's pretty good about calling out bad whistles (heard him do that several times last night) and at pissing off Mark Jackson. I like both of those things.

So what's more plausible. That JVG is a Mavs hater and is clearly rooting against the Mavs.

Or... that Mavs fans are hyper sensitive and wound tighter than a sphincter?

Your answer lies in the fact that the two are not mutually exclusive.

What's more plausible:

Everybody that saw the broadcast, heard the comment, who basically unanimously agree that JVG wasn't joking about the comment and that it was a stupid comment, are correct about what happened...

Or some dude who didn't even hear the comment and basically has no idea what we're talking about is "best buds" with JVG and just inherently knows that he was joking, and therefore has some (likely made up) insight on the matter that nobody else has.

What a shocker.....Muy adding absolutely nothing to any discussion on this board (as per usual) and including some stupid comment about the Spurs or Rockets. Like f'ing clockwork at this point.

By the way, I'm rooting for Mavs in this series and I never got the impression any of the announcers care who wins.

But it is just like Mavs fans to get fixated on one comment and make that the issue.. when really the issue is their team got dominated in the fourth quarter by Labron and Wade and now they don't feel so confident. Its only a matter of time before the refs, and stern and ABC and God himself join the conspiracy.

I don't know or care if JVG has a rooting interest in the series. I just know he's an idiot, and I don't suffer idiots on my teevee gladly.

You must've not watched the OKC series.

That's exactly how I interpreted what he said.

I don't think he hates the Mavs. But these broadcast inevitably appear to favor te winning team.

However, that was a really stupid comment about the Terry foul and he wasn't joking.

However, the worst part about Van Gundy is that he sounds like a deep voiced woman and while he may have the personality ad perceived knowledge, his voice is horrible.

Nobody here is fixated on the comment really. The thread was started before the game was anywhere close to being over.

I do take issue when some idiot jumps into a thread and makes blanket generalizations about an entire fanbase because a couple people said some mean things about his favorite announcer.

Turns you didn't even hear what JVG said, so you really have no business telling people they're wrong. But you did, still don't understand why it's stupid (apparently), and now you're back to making blanket generalizations about conspiracies. You sound like a buffoon.

9:54 [MIA 21-20] Jeff Van Gundy makes another boneheaded comment. Chalmers can't dribble the ball, then step out of bounds, and then be the first guy to touch the ball. Van Gundy has been an NBA coach and commentator for two decades, and he still doesn't know the rules.

But it's sarcasm, right?

You don't know Tim Donahhy like I do. He just likes to joke with Internet blog readers when he is analysing the officials.

You guys are hysterical that you can't pick up sarcasm!!!!!!
