I think what makes the Heat so good is they have 2 or 3 run stoppers. The Mavs just couldn't make multiple runs in the game. The Heat made 3 or 4 and the Mavs made 1 I believe.
Just have to try and get game 2 and I'll be happy.

Mavs hit more open shots, and they win.

Hopefully, it'll be a good series.

from looking at the stats the Mavs didn't have there normal shooting night.

Mavs reserves

Terry 3-10
JJ 1-8
Stojakovic 0-3
Haywood 0-1

Staters

Dirk 7-18
Kidd 3-8
Stevens 2-3
Chandler 3-4
Marion 6-12

So really only Dirk and Marion were the only productive players with the amount of time they played.

mavs will be fine. when your #2 scorer sucks, your team will struggle.

they only need to win one in miami to get home court

^ or rebounding. Only 6 offensive.

U have to have at least one person in the paint to get an offensive rebound, and it sure seemed like most of the game as soon as a shot went up 5 Mavs were all getting back on D.

that's the problem the mavs will have all series. their best rebounder is arguably their best defender, especially in the paint. with a team as athletic as the heat and multiple players that can drive at will, it's hard for chandler to sit under the glass and get the offensive rebound when he's desperately needed on the other end.

Agree Muy. A lot of retreat in that respect. Also, a lot of Lebron showing some athleticism getting over the taller guys for the defensive rebounds. 9 boards for him - all defensive.

We rarely forced any shots, and got all the looks we wanted. Barea, peja, and terry just didn't knock them down. Dirk finally had an off night, and we still were in it at the end.

The problem I have, is with carlisle stubbornly sticking with terrible lineups in the early fourth. We always either lose a lead, or get in a bigger hole than we ened to be, because of it. He needs to figure that **** out.

The Dallas bench had a horrible night. Peja and JJ just weren't very effective. That's got to change for Dallas to have a chance in this series.

They had bad luck all night. The shots were there, just didn't go in.

If it keeps up, it'll be ugly. But I doubt it will.

There is a reason for that. They are playing either the best or the second best defense in the league. Certainly the best defensive team in the playoffs this year.

The Mavs had very very few good looks, and they hit almost every one of those. The heat forced them into a bunch of bad shots, their closing speed is superb. They are much faster than the Mavs. The Heat will grind every game on defense and the Mavs will be wore towards the end, at which point Lebron/Wade turn it up. This is how they have played their last 10 games and it works.

Mavs will have to adjust in a big way from the no-defense style OKC played. Dirk is going to have to dominate for the Mavs to have a chance. If he doesn't go off for 40, this will be over in 5.

Not alot of recognition for the Heat other than the above quote. Alot of "well the Mavs didn't shoot well"...perhaps that's because they played the best team they've played all playoffs. The are for real people

Mavs had more open shots this game than they did for most of the Thunder series. Just didn't knock them down.

If you say so...whether you want to give them their credit of not doesn't matter, it's 1-0 Heat.

The Heat play good defense, no doubt. Overall in the series do I think they'll play better than OKC? Yes. Do I think they'd played better overall D than OKC in Game 1? No.

The last thing the Heat need is more recognition.

ESPN can't get off of their nuts after last night.

The team looked stiff with the exception of Marion. Once again, Chandler was hounded by some seriously questionable calls.

All that being said, I think one of the big problems was Dirk. Hard to fault the leading scorer, but he was passing way too quick instead of waiting for the double team. He needs to be more aggressive when he's singled up.

said it to my freinds before this series started - miami wins fairly easily.

mave win no more than 2 games, more than likely just 1 or 0.

Oh I get it, you see the mavs have no shot to win the series to make personal attacks...it's akin to the Grammer/spelling nazi's that have nothing to offer so they attack your grammer/spelling. Nice one, but let's get back on track...

...neither Wade or Lebron had great games either like they have in the Chicago series. I wonder what the score will look like when that happens (albeit neither did Dirk.)

As a Mavs fan, I hated that the shots weren't going in last night, but I loved what I saw defensively and even the looks we got on offense. These are the kind of games the Heat are always in because they can't score points with the best of them. The Mavs got the looks they wanted a lot but couldn't knock them down. If you had to choose an offense that was going to struggle in a game 1, then it's a half court set offense (mavs) opposed to a "just be an athlete" offense (heat). The Mavs offense will be more effective after every game. Mavs in 6. And I will put my money where my mouth is. I'm loving the +260 series price for the mavs now. And I'm not bias; I just know more about basketball and have watched more of the postseason than most.

Prepy,
So the Mavs below average offense is because of the Heat D, but the Heat's below average offense is just a fluke that will be rectified in future games? There's nothing wrong with you believing the Heat will win the series, but at least be consistent in your reasoning.

If the Mavs shot lights out and still lost then I'd be a lot more worried.

Not to say that I think the Mavs will definitely pull the series out, but they definitely didn't play their best ball.

If they hit more shots that they normally make it will get interesting. I'm curious to see how Wade's legs hold up considering all the talk about him being tired.

The Mavs need to hit more of their shots (I know, rocket surgery in action here folks) and force the Heat to ride their big 3 48 minutes a game.

I have no doubt Lebron can run all night. Wade - the Mavs need to try to run him in to the ground.
