Legends Dirk has passed, scoring wise, during this run: Bill Russell, Patrick Ewing, Robert Parish, Charles Barkley, Sam Jones, Clyde Drexler, Reggie Miller, James Worthy, Julius Erving and Dennis Johnson.

Duncan is the best PF ever. Why would any Mavs fan have any problem with this?

Are all Spurs this unaware how much respect that Mavs fans have for the Spurs franchise?

Well good for you. You are a rare breed then. Check around. There are plenty of people who would argue against this quote in favor of

Huh?

Who are the "non" rare breeds?

The closest you'll get is people saying Dirk is a better perimeter player/pure shooter than Duncan - who can argue that? With that said, nobody is saying - as near as I can tell - that Dirk is better.

I think Duncan gets alot of credit for rings that he won with great surrounding talent and that the whole "Dirk can't be an all time great without winning multiple rings" argument isn't as air tight as some think, but I still think it is impossible to not name Duncan the top PF of all time and a top 5-10 player of all time.

That SC quote was entirely states as a complement to Dirk - I heard it live and the context, the statement itself and everything else was complementary. It was saying that Dirk can be - at worst - discussed among guys like Barkley, Malone, Garnett, etc.

if you consider Duncan a PF, he is the the greatest PF of all time.

I have always thought of him as a C but its not a big deal b/c I am sure there are those who view Dirk as a tall SF.

Their games are so different its very difficult to compare the two.

Duncan was a much better defensive player for the majority of his career so to most that puts him a over the top. Thats completely fine.

What I do know for sure is that neither could guard the other in their primes. It was to the point that they often didn't even waste their energy trying to do so.

We are lucky to have had two of the greatest players ever playing on teams in Texas for their entire careers. Its not often that happens. Its just too bad Yao's body couldn't hold up. Could have had a top 20 all time great on all three Texas teams at the same time.

People that think this have no clue what they are talking about.

Dirk has played much more Center than SF over the course of his career... I won't link all seasons but you can look for yourself.

Regardless.... Being placed #2 behind Duncan is a huge compliment for Dirk and i'm sure he (and most Mavs fans that know anything about the NBA) would say the same thing.
