Has a team ever had a tougher road to the NBA Championship?

I know you're riding high right now, but c'mon...

And to answer your question, '95 Rockets.
Pahdz

i would say 95 Rockets up until the Finals, but the Mavs had the tougher final out.

To beat Kobe/Gasol, Durant/Westbrook, and Wade/LeBron...

Pretty amazing stuff. Defied conventional wisdom of needing 2 stars to win.

It's up there with the 95 Rockets.

Rockets didn't have to face the best player in the world. Mavs went through 6 of the top 9 players. Best 2 players in the world on the same team. Beat the back to back defending champs looking to 3peat for their retiring legend coach. Beat the lower seed in the 1st round with all the momentum that nobody wanted to face.

Get a life McQueen, you beat the bulls without Jordan. Mavs just beat a team that will win like 5 in a row, the future powerhouse of the Western Conference, and the 2 time defending NBA champs! MAVS ARE CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!

This is Dallas' night, so I don't want to rain on your parade, but the other poster had it right about the '95 Rockets.

Dallas beat the following seeds (in order): 6/2/4/2
'95 Houston beat the following (in order): 3/2/1/1

Case closed.... but obviously a great run by the mavs this year.

I'm not Mavs Fan, I am a Rocket fan. And that was because the Rockets were the 6th seed so they played higher seeds. And in retrospect Orlando was not that good and Utah and Phoenix where perennial under achievers.

They played a 4 seed in the Conference Finals!

I don't think the OP was just talking about the Championship.

Whatever McQueer. You watch, Thunder and Heat for the next 3/5 years at least. Stop raining on the parade. MAVS ARE CHAMPIONS!

I don't think you can do it strictly by seeds, especially with the "case closed" label. The Mavs swept the defending champs and beat a recent champ in 6. It is just the perspective you want to use to look at it. You have to put Portland in '77 up there as well.

To me, all NBA champs had a tough road. The great Bulls team and the couple of really good Lakers and Celtics teams just made it look easy.

Seeds are the only real item you can compare across different generations of teams. It doesn't make one run necessarily more impressive (because it ignores how series are won), but it does help us identify who had the toughest route 'in theory'.

In the Western Conference, this was a year where the seeds didn't mean ****. All 8 teams were good.

Maybe the '94 rockets but not the '95 rockets.

Dirk didn't have a second option like Hakeem did. Clyde Drexler >> Terry

I suppose guys like Stockton, Malone, Barkley, Robinson (MVP), and Shaq are chopped liver.

Dallas didn't even face the MVP!!!

Vest, nobody's taking away from what your Mavs did tonight. The OP asked a question - sorry the honest answers don't jive with your view of the world, asshat.

Whatever assqueer, the Mavs faced a 2-time MVP and a Finals MVP. Houston Rocket fans must be butthurt cause of how irrelevant they have been since the Mavs came back from 3-1 down to win the series.

One last bit before I call it a night... Dallas fans talking at all about any team being irrelevant is laughable, considering the pit of mediocrity they're about to stumble into.

If it wasn't this year for you guys, it really would be never. Dirk's gone soon, and he won't go off next year like he has this year (patiently awaiting the EPO scandal) and Kidd is out too.

You'll be starting JJ at the 1 next year.

And I think pretty much everyone thought that if the Heat were in the Finals that meant they had it figured out and were rolling.

Early on, there might have been some issues about them meshing. But by the end of the year, with them beating Boston and Chicago that was over. That was a team with 3 stars, two of whom are at least in the top 7-10 of NBA players if not top 5.

Honest question and give me an honest answer. Everyone will know if you're lying.

If you were allowed to run an NBA team for a season tomorrow and could sign one of the three following players, who would you pick?

Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, or Derek Rose?

I am going to bite.... what?

I think Dirk's game will age about as well as anyone's. He could end up being one of the top 5 scores in NBA history.

As far as EPO.... don't know how much that would help his game, it's not like he plays tenacious defense...

Lebron and Wade are the best 2 players in the world. That's pretty much universally acknowledged. It sure as hell was acknowledged with 7 minutes to go in game 2. They didn't play like it in the last 4.25 games of the Finals though.

They beat the guy who personally shut down and humiliated the MVP like Jordan on Malone or Hakeem on Robinson. Rose wasn't the real MVP like Robinson wasn't the real MVP (**Guitarsoup beacon activated**)

Guys - You're making this too hard.

Average seed of teams beaten in Mavericks run = 3.5
Average seed of teams beaten in Rockets run = 1.75

Like golf, lower is better. In this case, 1.75 is a whole lot lower than 3.5.
