Saw this news tonight. Evidently no games now through the end of the year.

Once again, contracts/money/self worth ruin ANOTHER professional sports season.

Why is it, the owners rep vs. the players rep looked different? The owners had a rep speak for them. The players had an entrouge of people that looked like leeches/hangers on. It looked like a pro had a spokesperson vs the Rap Star and his group of "influential friends".

Really? Who has more business cred?

Why does not the NBA drug test like the NFL, or better yet Pro Baseball? Why does the NBA players union REFUSE to negotiate if the same drug testing rules are on the table?

Pro basketball is a sport that condones street thugrary.

IF the NBA endorsed the same testing as the other Pro sports, I might allow my young son to watch some. Real life sports "heroes" that are allowed to get high, while *****ing about the money they make, while they make millions. WTF?

Cancell the whole damn thing.

Tears abound, except in our house.

Your son shouldn't be allowed to watch television at all if drugs are a concern. You probably shouldn't enroll him in school either. Better yet, don't let him out of the house. It's scary out there.

Who gives a **** about the sports season?

How about all the low level workers that are supremely ****ed because a bunch of millionaires want to make more millions? While they do that, companies that work to service the NBA machine are getting laid off and missing paychecks. **** the players, **** the owners, **** the season. I feel bad for the ticket takers, scoreboard operators, etc. You think that guy LIKES walking up and down stairs with 60 lbs of beer in a tray? He has a family to feed. And he is going to miss not getting those dollar tips on the $9 beers.

This lockout is less about players vs. owners and more about small market owners vs. large market owners. Large market owners are already ok with the deal.

Unfortunately, when the owners are led by Comic Sans, and he wants everyone to pay for what LBJ did, you are going to have an extended break, if not a cancellation.

I really think the reason Stern put such a gag order on the owners was because it is an ownership issue.

Really mad at the owners and players. It's millionaires fighting with billionaires and the public loses.

The NBA will be hurt severely by this. It took steroids to save the MLB.

Wheelsoff, I know you said that in jest, but it's going to happen imo. The NFL was able to save the season because from the beginning they had a solid foundation, and the two sides weren't far off.

The NBA, otoh, has some fundamental flaws. Revenue sharing, salary caps, etc... This stuff is going to kill any chance at a season this year and I wouldn't be surprised to see substantially fewer viewers once they finally do get a season going similar to the loss in viewership the NHL had after their prolonged lockout. Yes, basketball is more of an American sport than hockey, but Americans lose interest easily. Something else will fill the void.

The worst thing is that the NBA was starting to get really entertaining and was riding some good momentum.

I wonder if the NBA realizes how thin the thread by which its popularity hangs is. They've managed to turn my second favorite sport and the league of dozens of near-mythical legends into a reality show that combines unlikable thugs/petulant millionaires, prolific criminal activity, court room battles over who has the most 0s on the checks, and one white guy out front (Stern) who just looks like he should be punched.

They dont. The proud never realize. What they don't realize is that no league is untouchable. Even the NFL, the holy grail of all the leagues in America, would have experienced severe negative backlash and declined viewership if they had a prolonged lockout. The NBA, while indeed very popular, is nowhere near the NFL's status. As far as I can tell, they're no closer to resolving this lockout than they were 3 weeks ago. As I mentioned above, I wouldn't be shocked to see the entire season go down the tubes. That's how serious the problems the NBA faces are. And if it does, don't expect the NHL, MLB, NFL, hell, even MLS to skip a beat. Especially the NHL and MLS. They will be dying to scoop up all those people without their NBA to watch once baseball and football end.

Does this count towards the Mavs championship totals? We are still NBA champs two years in a row!!! The Mavs should throw a parade. Let's make this happen.
