Unless a miracle happens there will be no Chandler, Barea, or Butler. Does Cuban really think they will A). Have enough cap space for 2012 by doing this and B). be able to talk one of the superstars into joining a 34 year old superstar??? Fools gold if you ask me. (of course I thought we should have gotten Al Jefferson over Chandler so wtf do I know?)

I agree. They may also lose Stevenson. You're losing most of the little youth we had and all were vital players (minus Butler since he was hurt) in last years run. I guess the cap is that important to them.

F***ing Cuban. He makes the 2nd best personnel move since he has owned the Mavericks (first being Dirk) in getting Chandler and then promptly gives him away.

You know Cuban didn't draft Dirk, right?

Game Blouses, Cuban had nothing to do with drafting or trading for Dirk. That was all Don Nelson.

Cuban is too involved with chasing the Dodgers to care about basketball. He got his ring, and now it's off to a new adventure. The Mavs are fixing to go back to sucking because we have no youth that is up and coming. When Dirk goes the ship will head to the depths of the ocean.

Chandler's asking for too much.

Chandler to Knicks (rumored) almost a done deal.

Also, Knicks rumored to be pursuing Chris Paul by sending Amare to Hornets.

Mavs are going to suck this year, bad day in general for DFW teams.

Butler's already gone. Chandlers good as gone. Barea is going that way real fast.

Cuban sees the writing on the wall and is starting rebuilding now instead of being crippled by old guys with new money. Can't help but think what Dirk thinks of it though.

maybe the Mavs are trying to pull a 1996-1997 San Antonio Spurs...you know blow the season to get the number one pick. Dirk may be getting a lot of sprained ankles this year...just saying.

Cuban's Master Plan: Get your title...Blow the next season...have cap space...get the number one pick...sign a BIG TIME FREE AGENT.

Out of those 3 player , I would resign JJ. Butler is old and is coming off a major knee injury. As for Chanlder, he's not worth the money he was asking for.

Trust in Cubes - here's some of his response directly to ESPN
quote:
What I don’t think people understand is that once a team hits the tax level the ability to improve our team is reduced dramatically. In addition, your ability to make trades is reduced. So basically, if we made the move to keep everyone together with five-year deals, the team we have today is going to be the team we have for the next five years. If we were a young team it would be one thing. But we are not a young team.

In the past, it was different. If we had a problem, I could fix any mistake by having Donnie find a trade and just taking on more money. That is how we got Jet, the Matrix, JKidd, Tyson. It was always about taking on more money. That trick doesn’t work any more for teams over the tax. So we have to change our approach. By getting back under the cap, we have a ton of flexibility not only for free agent signings but also trades. If we can get the right guy(s) via free agency, great. if we do it via trade, great. We have that much more flexibility to make moves.

Again, I know this is tough for all of us after winning a championship. But we still believe as much as last year we are in a position to compete for a championship.

The difference is that with this approach, we can be in a position to compete for a championship this year and to reload and continue to compete in future years.

By just signing everyone to long-term deals, there is no chance of that happening.

We won last year because we put ourselves in a position to create opportunities that brought us the right players at the right time.

We structured contracts in ways that gave us upside. The rules are different now, and while it makes it tougher this year because of the affection we have for many of the guys that are leaving, if we want the Mavs to be able to compete for championships in future years as well, it’s a hard decision, but I believe the right decision.
So Mavs fans, enjoy the season as defending champs and know that we still had the best owner in sports. It's the perfect time to have a rebuilding season on the fly. They will stay opportunistic

And lol at givin 24mm to Butler. Great guy but that will be an immediate albatross contract.

No need to waste money on Barea - Roddy B needs to step up into that slot at a fraction of the cost

Losing Chandler is tough. I would gladly overpay him if they could dump some of the other bad contracts.

Mavs offered Chandler 1 year at $20 million and he declined.

Chandler understands the Mavs are in deep trouble with the salary cap. Cuban knows this. They couldn't work it out. happens. The new CBA is very anti Mavs in terms of how the team was setup today.

Cuban was on 103.3 today and he mentioned how they are gearing up to have tons of room for 2012-2013 to get offensive weapons to extend Dirk's career.

It's not about letting these guys walk and how stupid the front office is. They can't make big moves anyway and must wait for the right moment.

The Mavs can't be the only team with these issues, so you can't view this in a vacuum.
