I'm thinking he does. I think he had 2 choices once the lockout ended.

1. Go for broke and leverage all that he could to keep his championship team intact as much as possible while maybe trying to add another piece or two to replace the guys you couldn't keep. Hope to catch lighting in a bottle again sometime in the next year or two and get another championship.

2. Blow it up and build for the future when some of these super teams are on the decline and you can make another run. Let's face it, the next 3 to 5 years are going to belong to either Miami or LA. There is just too much talent on those two teams to realistically believe one of the two isn't going to win the championship probably 4 out of the next 5 years.

I think option 1 was a long shot to be successful at. I think Cuban knows he has bought himself a couple of years of good will with last years success. He knows he can have a couple of lousy years to try and win the lottery and maybe pick up a new superstar or 2 though the draft to match up with an aging Dirk for another run at it in say 4 or 5 years down the road.

There's a trade rumor of the Mavs still trying to get Howard. But so are the Nets, and Lakers. They apparently all have permission to talk with his agent about a deal.

Cuban doesn't believe in breaking the bank for players on the back side of their prime. It was the Finley lesson.

So far it's cost us Nash, Chandler, & Butler.

The championship has bought some good will but if we can't land a top free agent w Cubes will have a hard time selling tickets.

The crazy gamble in this is the fact we have never landed a top free agent... Ever.

well in all honesty we've never had the cap room to. cuban made too many dumb mid season moves early on in his ownership like lafrenz, antoine walker, antawn jamison, etc. mavs havent had cap room to sign a big free agent in cuban's tenure.

Nash was the right move and I think Chandler is as well. I'd have liked Butler back, but whatever. Maybe Dallas can finally land Howard or DWill next year...or both?

The plan is coming into place as we are close to signing Vince Carter. Wow, we are really going to kick ass now!!

Now we get Khloemar Odom. This is gonna be a strange team, unless there's some master plan to all this involving somebody big. Could just be clearing cap space for D Will next summer.
