Would not be shocked to see the Mavs make it to the Western Conference Finals this year. They could beat the Lakers or Clippers in a seven game series as things sit right now. Prolly not OKC though... the West sucks.

Losing Chandler and JJ obviously hurts.

Picking up Odom and Fernandez takes a lot of sting out of that though, especially if Roddy B can come back healthy.

Never really had a chance to keep Chandler. Mavs were fortunate he stayed healthy last season. He could go down at any time. JJ was fun to watch, and caught teams off guard, but he wasn't going to be the long term replacement for Kidd. Hopefully Roddy stays healthy and assumes that role.

Odum brings somes size lost w/ Chandler. I see him being a good fit. Carter has experience, I guess, and can still be exciting at times. Maybe he can play a similar role as Stackhouse did. No clue about West. Hide yo' mom. Hide yo' wife.

Chandler was the only real loss and it's hard to argue with the Mavs not wanting to commit 5 years to a old injury prone center.

The Mavs still have the deepest bench in the league and one of the most versatile line ups... thanks to the Lakers.

First,

Butler-yes, would've been nice to keep him but he was injured all playoffs long and we still won the championship. Replaced by Odom. No huge loss.

Barea-very overrated. Dude was USELESS against portland. Had a couple good games against LA. Had a couple good games against OKC and was crappy against Miami every game except for the last two. Can be very easily replaced by Roddy B. No big loss there.

Chandler-Huge loss. I'm hoping we can possibly sign Dalembert. We'll miss his athleticism but with Haywood as the man, maybe he'll be a lot better.

You have to remember the Mavs are old so they sorta overloaded on the guards/SF positions. They're playing smart.

And if you look closer, most of these guys' contracts will be over by season end. Who's an FA next offseason? Oh you know, just Deron Williams and Dwight Howard. Mark Cuban will play it right where we'll have 25-30 mill of cap space. Enough to sign BOTH Deron and Dwight.

Mark Cuban isn't an idiot. The mavs are still the favorites to come out of the west and we'll have a huge chance to sign Deron and Dwight in the summer.

THE THREE Ds IN DALLAS: DIRK, DWIGHT AND DERON

^ Not quite that optimistic, but he does have one thing right: Mark Cuban is no idiot. I'm impressed by how quickly he's gotten wiggle room into the salary cap given how high we have continually been over it. I don't think we land Dwight next summer, but Deron is a real possibility.

Deron/Dirk/Dwight would be unbelievable.

As opposed to the Big 3 in Miami, those 3 fit into a team.

I know other teams get hot, but the Mavs seem to have an uncanny ability to put together 10-15 game winning streaks -- or 13 of 15 type streaks -- in most seasons. Last year it was like 17 of 18 at one point. A few years ago it was 17 in a row. 12, 13, and 14 haven't been uncommon in recent years. This year those types of streaks are magnified.

No kidding. I think the Lakers just became my second favorite team...and I hate the Lakers.

Containing both Dirk and Odom will be a nightmare for opposing teams. Hopefully Kidd can hold up one more year and West can spell him with good minutes at the 1.
