Nowhere in their stories does ESPN say they don't deserve the championship or they are not world champions? I don't know what you mean about credibility. Small market? Dallas has their own section on ESPN.

He's being an idiot. The lockout really swallowed up any attention the mavs had coming their way, and now with the compressed offseason, the focus has been on all the player movement.

I dont think he's joking He had a similar rant to the media the night they won the title. He dyed his hair gold to match the trophy. All those years of frustration and disrespect built up and this is how he's coping.

I'm more worried about Jet - he's more likely to lose his competitive edge and live life like the beginning of Rocky 3

The title should push Marion into the Hall of Fame. He was already a top 20 player for a 4-5 year stretch and his awards, longevity stats and contributions to multiple great teams would have put him in the discussion. He should retire as a top 100 all-time leader for both playoffs and regular season in points, rebounds, blocks and steals.

In my opinion Marion isn't in the same class as any of those players you mentioned.

And I wouldn't necessarily call him a 'key' contributor if you're comparing him to the people on your list. With the exception of Ben Wallace (arguably the most important player), everyone on that list has been THE man on a successful franchise at some point in time.

For comparison, I look at Michael Finley. Great career, a championship, multiple all stars, but in NO way a HOFer.

funny you mention Finley, another guy who really got the most of his big stats out in Phoenix.

Marion is a nice athletic defender, but as an offensive player, he's been very limited in stops post-Phoenix/Nash

Marion's stats and awards speak for themselves. The title run clinches it. Finley can't touch him in anything - 0 all-nba selections, spare bench player on title team, never came close to leading in any stat category.

I still don't agree. I don't think it clinches anything. To say it clinches it means he had a good shot at making the HOF before, which I don't think he did. I think he is one of the most overrated players in NBA history who's big career seasons were a product of Steve Nash. I still don't think this title will get him to Springfield.

And Finley actually started for the Spurs, putting up 11.2 points in their championship run compared to Marion's 11.9. Maybe not the best comparison though.
