I didn't compare Marion to those players - its an objective list.

It's always fun to present stats and facts while others can only give emotional responses.

From the blog, one more exclusive list Marion will be on when he retires - players that are top 100 all-time in 4 major stat categories pts/reb/blk/stl

Let’s look at the career totals you currently need to rank in the top 100 in those four stats in the regular season — you need at least 15,635 points, 6,891 rebounds, 1,104 steals and 872 blocks. Eleven players meet those career benchmarks — eight of them (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Robert Parish, David Robinson and Scottie Pippen) are already in the Hall of Fame, two of them (Kevin Garnett and Chris Webber) are locks to join the Hall when they’re eligible, and the 11th is the aforementioned Jack Sikma. This is not shabby company to be in.

I suppose I could see it, he is very Pippen-esque. The bulk of his big numbers came when he wasn't the alpha-dog of the team (you could argue this, but the Suns were always and still are Nash's Suns).

His stats are better than Pippen's in terms of his individual production. What he doesn't have is the title of greatest second banana of all time, which belongs solely to Pippen.

Still, people say Scottie was a top 50 player in NBA history. If Marion is even comparable --and he is in all the relevant categories for individual achievement, including defense-- then calling him a HOFer is not the ridiculous statement many on here would make it.

Upon further review, I think I short-changed Pippen's defense compared to Marion's. It's clear that Pippen was the better defender, though Marion is still a very good defensive player.

I am not arguing that Marion is better than Pippen.

People saying Shawn Marion doesn't deserve a look at HoF are idiots. Sure 1st ballot? No, but he has a good body of work.

Marion was good. Pippen was possibly the best perimeter defender ever. Marion isn't near as good as Scottie. Note that Marion never got All-Defense.

Marion was never really the #1 option on his team. Pippen was for two years and both years they were playoff teams.

Yes, Marion did win a title. Averaging 12 and 6. Third option? Fourth option? Fifth option? Not a huge resume boost. People are going to remember Dirk, Barea, Kidd and Tyson from that run.

Marion had some nice stats, but he put up most of his big numbers on a run & gun Phoenix team that played no D. He leaves the fun and gun ssol team and his numbers take a HUGE hit while he is still in his 20s. Breaking up the Phoenix team because he wanted to be the man. He wanted to get the respect and be the go to guy. That type of stuff isn't going to help, especially when everyone remembers that multiple teams gave him away for pretty much nothing.

FWIW: his HOF indicator is .32 and the cut off is .5.

Marion would be the poster boy of the hall of the good. He is a complementary player at best. Sure couldn't carry a team, even as the second banana.

Are you using basketball reference Soup? If so they have Manu at a .152 haha. But that would an outlier because he's an absolute lock.

Manu is an outlier because of his international accomplishments. Marion's international accomplishments include being on the Olympic team that got the bronze medal while Ginobili led Argentina to the gold.

The HOF is for basketball, not just NBA like baseball is just for MLB.

Based solely on his NBA accomplishments, Manu is not even close to an HOFer. But with everything he has done overseas, he is a lock.

BR only judges based on NBA.
