TNT says this was the largest comeback in the past 10 years. What happened 10 years ago? Show me someone that erased 24 points in 8 minutes.

They really did fall in love with the 3 which is not their game. Plenty of basketball left.

Not sure if I heard it right but TNT said it ties the largest 4th qtr comeback in play-off history (21 pts) but added that they were down 24 with 8 minutes left. Go figure.

Yeah twitter confirmed Boston was down 21 at start of 4th vs Nets in 2002 playoffs ,but it was not 24 points in 8 minutes.

That was by far the most depressing game I have ever watched.

Premature to say Memphis cannot recover

I know, but it just takes so much out of you being up so much and then to lose.

Oh yeah how could I forget 2002 Mavs at Lakers in December - Mavs led by 27 at the start of the 4th and lost. They were in a streak of not winning at LA for like 15 straight years. Still not as bad as 24 in 8 minutes.

How many points were the Celtics down when they came back to beat the Fakers in game 4 or 5 of the Finals a few years ago in LA? I thought I remember it being a 20+ point comeback, but I forget exactly

WTF? I went to sleep at the end of the third. I had to do a double take when I saw the headline.

Man, I'm glad I turned on the TV late last night to check in on the game that I thought was already out of hand. What a comeback.

I have no real rooting interest in either team, but it kind of reminded me of the A&M/Arizona game in 2007 where we were up big and then lost. But this was with less time and a larger margin.

Like one ESPN article said, it makes you question how you watch basketball. Being up 24 with 8 minutes or so left, you think the other team is done.

I'll be interested to see how the Grizzlies respond and if the Clips get down in a game late and start making a surge if the impossible happens again.

Have to agree with Iowa on this one. Seems like at least a dozen times this year that Memphis has had big leads (20 point type leads) only to let the other team back in it and have to fight for the game in the last minute or possession.

Difference being they were up by 24 in the early 4th (usually the other team had made most of their comeback) and its the playoffs.

Big choke job and will be interesting to see how the Grizz bounce back from it.

They actually had a 27-point lead. Caron Butler also broke his hand and is out for the remainder of the series, probably.


I'm not sure they recover from this to even make this a 6 game series. To come back from this monumental choke job would have to be one of the biggest accomplishments.

Positive thing for Memphis is that the last 3 teams we know of to blow a 20 point 4th quarter lead went on to the Finals (11 Mavs, 02 Nets, 94 Rockets).

Damn, had to do a double take when I checked ESPN earlier since I went to bed pretty early last night. And wow I totally forgot about Game 4 Mavs-Blazers. One of the most demoralizing Mavs losses I've ever seen.

Hopefully this will be true. I may have to dig up last year's "I'm done with this team" thread after last year's Portland-Mavs game.

Memphis should still win this series. They are clearly the better team, and if Butler is unable to play or limited, they should win this in 6 games fairly easily.

As much as the loss to LA stunk, seeing the above video on Ball Don't Lie reminded me that there are a whole lot worse things in the world. AND if you ever get a chance to visit/tour St. Jude Children's Hospital, you'll be a fan (but bring a box of Kleenex).

haha..damn chris paul flopping again. Trying to take a charge and fell backwards without even being touched. He didn't get the call, though.

I hate him.

At the game, and so far my biggest highlight was between quarters when they had a clippers guy interrupt the in game crowd guy doing an interview.

Needless to say, clippers guy wouldn't give up the mic until Jerry Lawler came out and tombstoned the jobber.

It looked like Lawler almost missed on that move. I thought the guy's neck was going to break.
