Is this the spurs last real chance

I'm not too big on the NBA offseason. I follow the spurs like crazy, but in terms of who's a free agent, what teams are under the cap, etc., I don't have much of a clue. For those who follow that, is there any chance the spurs could make a move in the offseason that would give them a chance for one last run?

I'm not completely conceding this year. If OKC shoots poorly and the Spurs shoot well, anything can happen in oklahoma to send it back to SA for a game 7, just being realistic about their chances right now. If they want to have one more title under the Duncan era, this year probably isn't the year.

Yes. I think it's their last chance just for the fact that everyone is healthy.

PG
-Parker is still a championship-caliber starter, and will be for a few more years.
-there isn't much at backup PG. Neal is a SG, not a PG. This is a need unless Mills grows into the role.

SG
-Green was solid in the regular season and continued to play good defense in the playoffs, but his shot vanished against a tough defense. Still a decent starter.
-Ginobili is obviously still a premier player when the Spurs ask him to be.
-Neal is talented, but takes dumb shots and has no focus on defense.

SF
-Leonard is the SF of the future.
-Jax still has a couple more good years, and he is a great teammate and competitor.

PF/C
-Duncan is still a quality starter on both ends
-Diaw is a good player, but doesn't have the height to protect the rim
-Bonner STILL needs to go. He has been a playoff dud several years in a row. Can't shoot against a good D, too slow to defend.
-Blair would be a nice guy to have last off the bench, but he shouldn't be first off the bench
-Splitter needs to make a leap next year defensively. He gets moved around at will by strong players and can't protect the rim against guards

Upgrades would be nice at SG and I think a backup PG is important, but the most important hole is still a shotblocker and rebounder in the paint. The Spurs have lots of crafty and/or undersized posts that can't get it done on defense. When Duncan goes out the paint is wide open, and they always struggle to prevent offensive rebounds.

I think the spurs have to find someone else inside if they want to make one more run, just didn't know if there were any realistic opportunities.

The spurs will only have the MLE to offer free agents, so their ability to add an impact, All-Star caliber free agent will be pretty low. They would have to go the trade route (probably involving Stephen Jackson's $10M expiring contract) to try to do a significant shake-up.

The spurs will re-sign Duncan, they'll make 1 or 2 small moves and basically bring back the same team next year while looking for opportunistic trade possibilities. Their roster decisions will revolve around what to do with Diaw and Green. Mills has a player option. Neal's option is cheap so they'll probably bring him back. Maybe they'll cut Blair. The other 8 guys in their 11-man rotation are under contract and will be back.

As far as some free agents this summer who will realistically be available at the MLE or less and could be good fits on the Spurs include at SG guys like: Carlos Delfino, Michael Redd, Courtney Lee (restricted - Rockets can match), Deshawn Stevenson, Rudy Fernandez (restricted - Denver can match), C.J. Miles, Mickael Pietrus. At C/PF the talent pool is not great this summer, you are talking guys like: Ronny Turiaf, Troy Murphy, Kenyon Martin, Jordan Hill, Louis Amundsun, Marcus Camby, Aaron Gray, Kwame Brown, Jermaine O'Neal, Jason Collins, Pryzbilla.

The team is constructed very well and the style of play fits, but if the role players cannot hit open shots neither of those things matter. They no longer have a player that cant put the team on its back for 7 games and they do not play high caliber defense.

Sigh, I hope they can do something. The window is all but closed. NO way they can beat this Thunder team next year if they stand pat.
