I heard on the radio today that Shane Battier is the first Duke player to ever win an NBA Championship. That seems crazy considering how many players they put in the NBA, but I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Not really...Duke doesn't have those "flashy" players that have that "swag" the NBA seems to be flithy with. Some of the most successful Duke basketball players (Hurley, Lattiner, etc...) aren't very good in the NBA.

Grant Hill has had the most success, and I don't think he's ever even been to a finals. It's like coming from a spread offense in College Football. You may win alot in college, but you're not really NFL material for the most part.

Not sure which idiot radio “personality” couldn’t do a Google search, but Danny Ferry won a title with the Spurs in 2003. Also, Jeff Mullins won one with the Warriors back in the ‘70’s.

C’mon man! Hurley is an awful example. The dude almost died in a car accident two months into his rookie season!!!

Kyrie Irving ring any bells? The dude was the #1 overall pick…

Elton Brand, Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng have all been front-line starters, and/or All-Stars at various points in their careers. I think any of those three could/would have started for a championship caliber team in their respective primes.

Shane Battier, Dahntay Jones, JJ Redick, Mike Dunleavy, Chris Duhon, Gerald Henderson and Corey Maggette and even the much-maligned Laettner are/were all rotation worthy players on any number of NBA squads, including numerous playoff teams.

Johnny Dawkins and Jack Marin were both quality professional players for roughly a decade.

Terrible examples.

Laettner's first 6 seasons were pretty solid, as he averaged about 17 and 8. These days, that will get you about $15mil/year. Then he tore an achilles and bounced around as a serviceable role player for another 6 or 7 years. Not a great career, but decent.

Prior to getting hurt his rookie season, Hurley was averaging 6 assists/game in 26 mpg. Not great, but not bad for a rookie. Who knows how his career would have turned out.

Even white people enjoy hating on Duke.

Corey Maggette has been pretty solid, although his time at Duke really shouldn't count since he received improper benefits before leaving Duke, and all the Duke victories should have been vacated.

But they weren't because the NCAA is like that.

Ok, let me clarify...Please name me one Duke player that has had or is having the same success in the NBA that he had in college...and Irving? Really? I'm pretty sure the conversation started with championships in the NBA, and the last time I checked he doesn't have one.

Dahntay Jones? Mike Dunleavy? Those are the players you point to for proof of quality Duke players in the NBA? I can't argue against that logic that's for sure because I'm handicapped by a need to make sense.

Says the guy who stated the following:

Let's go over this again...Bobby Hurley suffered a life-altering automobile accident that nearly cost him his life in December of his rookie year...

And as mentioned above, Laettner had a very solid start to his career before he was derailed by a serious injury.

Of course, I ask a simple question and get these responses...I'll even ask again, but I don't expect a response (at least a coherent one), but please, outside of Shane battier, name one Duke player that has had the same success in the NBA that he had at Duke.

You're whole point is based on the premise that Hurley WOULD'VE been a stud in the NBA. Is that what you're contending?

Whether their college success translates into being NBA stars or not, the sheer number of first rounders they have had over the past __ years makes it surprising that only a handful have won a title. I would be curious to see a comparison to the other college powerhouses.

No, the point would be that Hurley would be a terrible example for you to utilize in making (or attempting to make) your point due to the aforementioned extenuating circumstances...
