Do you think Stern's anger is more about the big 3 not playing for the Spurs or that Pop sent them home and they were not even in the state of Florida?

The problem here is Pop screwed the Miami fans who came to see those four Spurs play against their stars. You could also get into major gambling issues with people having prior info about this kind of thing before the lines are re-set.

If you want to sit people, limit their minutes in each game, not just fail to show up at an entire one.

The Spirs should be fined for being so cheap they flew Southwest. Happy Hannakuh Pop!

I think this is stupid.. but i do wonder why he chose this game to rest them. If the last week has been such hell.. why not rest them in the middle of it and not at the end?

What, it's not like Pop played most of the same guys more than 20 minutes on the 2nd night of a back to back on the road, except against the worst team in the league, only 3 days before.

Let's face it, if this game isn't on TNT, this isn't hardly mentioned. People going to the Miami Heat games aren't going to see the Spurs, they are Heat fans. Now, Orlando Magic fans, they probably do choose the Spurs as opponents when deciding what games to see.

So in this case, stop with the "whoa to the poor Heat fans" mentality.

If they rest the team's core against a bad team, they risk letting the bad team steal a win but still losing on the road to the defending champions with the only two guys who can slow Lebron down sitting at home injured and the champs coming off 5 days of rest. Basically, they decided to take the sure 1 win instead of rolling the dice, probably landing on 0-2, and then heading back to play a tough, gritty game against Memphis right after a tough, gritty loss to the Heat. The Grizzlies are the most important game this week because they are the Spurs competition in the division, so the Spurs need to be as close to 100% as possible.

If the NBA doesn't want this to happen, all they need to do is not schedule marquee matchups on the back end of a 6 game road trip featuring 3 conference semifinal teams, let alone as the last of 4 road games in 5 nights. That's bush league. Even if the starters play all the games, they are not going to be at 100%

This was also done to play mind games with the Heat, although Pop would never admit that.

and that, although I think the Heat are actually a pretty good matchup for the Spurs. The Spurs can limit Lebron as well as anyone with Leonard/Jax/Diaw/Blair, de Colo actually did well against Wade (although he wasn't 100%, de Colo is still in just his 17th NBA game) and Green vs. Wade is a good matchup, and they can pound the Heat down low with Duncan/Splitter. Udonis Haslem/Chris Bosh are free points for Duncan.

This is the dumbest **** I've ever seen. You are going to tell me that the NBA has a say in who the coach plays? This is the biggest crock of crap I've ever seen.

Like others have stated, Pop rested the players last night so 1) they could be fresh against Memphis, a more important game and 2) so we could get at least a 1-1 split instead of 0-2 on the last 2 games of the road trip.

Also, Pop certainly sent a message to the NBA. I personally think it's great that he has the balls to do it.

Before the season even started you knew Pop would sit players for certain games. If you didn't think it would happen then you haven't been paying much attention to the Spurs the last few years.

Do you think Pop would pass up an opportunity to rest his players and send the NBA a message? Heck no.

I dislike the Spurs as much as the next guy, but this thread is ****ing stupid and so is David Stern. It's Stern's fault this happened in the first place. Why the hell would you schedule the Spurs to play 4 games in 5 days and at the same time give the Heat 4 consecutive days off? I would have done the same thing if I were Pop.

What's next, Bud Selig telling the Nationals they can't pitch Strausburg every 5th day, that fans pay to see the stars and want to see their best every night?
