Grover sat down with us on Tuesday for a series of interviews. This first one is about Michael Jordan, and includes a shocking bit of Jordan insight from Grover.

You know Jordan's famous "Flu Game," when Jordan famously fought illness to succeed in Game 5 of the 1997 Finals in Utah.

Grover says Jordan didn't have the flu at all. Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose have recently debated whether or not Jordan was in fact hung over for that game, a suggestion that Grover scoffs at.

The real truth, Grover says, is that Jordan was poisoned.

I just listened to the interview with Grover about the incident. He said that they were at a hotel in the Park City area on the road against Utah in the playoffs. It was late so there was no room service available. Jordan tells Grover to order a pizza. 5 guys show up to the hotel to deliver the pizza. He is already suspicious but Michael doesn't care and eats it anyway. Nobody else but Michael ate it and he is the only one who got sick. Grover claims this pizza place in Utah poisoned MJ.

Kind of bizarre story.

For those who appreciate NBA history, there's a nice series on Bernard King (recently elected to HOF) going on. Possibly the most underrated star in the game.

What if you wrapped up the “Flu Game” by Jordan, “The Duel” by Bird and Wilkins, and added a dash of Willis Reed? Then you get Bernard battling Isiah in Game 5 with a 102 fever and mangled hands that were getting freeze-sprayed throughout the game. In Jordan’s famous 1997 “Flu Game”, he scored 38 points on 48% shooting. In Bernard’s Flu/Duel/Freeze-Spray Game he topped Jordan with 44 points on 65% shooting. There would be no pictures of an old-school King bending over or being held up by his teammates — only his legendary game face.

quote:
“He had splints on both of his middle fingers, both dislocations… Bernard is ill and can’t come to the shootaround. They’re feeding him intravenously… Now, we can’t hit him on the break because he can’t dribble with the pain in his hands. So we’re thinking, how the hell are we going to win with this guy?” – Hubie Brown

quote:
“Bernard King was the toughest matchup of my career. And I say that from the heart.” – Julius Erving

quote:

“Bernard King… is the best forward in the league, hands down”. – Larry Bird

What was the story regarding this? Did Mack Brown accuse a College Station restaurant of attempting to poison their food or something? I remember hearing something about that but dont know the whole story
