Dwight will enjoy flirting with some teams, but he is going to resign with the Lakers.

I am not sure about LA's other big name - looks like Chris Paul is going to look around.

I can't wait to see the Lakers front office work their magic to put the team into contention next season. 2014 will still be the big reload (they only have $9M on the books after next season), but I still think they could still acquire a long-term piece this offseason if they part with Pau and Meta.

Antawn, Duhon, and Ebanks are definite goners. I think they resign Jodie Meeks, Darius Morris, Earl Clark and Steve Blake. Sacred and Goudeocke could go either way.

For all you Texas peps I'll predict J-Smoove to the Rockets, Bynum to the Mavs and Milsap to the Spurs.

Will 2 of these guys go to the same place: CP3, Josh Smith, Dwight Howard?

While those guys, along with Jefferson, Bynum, and Tyreke will get the most headlines, I think the interesting guys are the solid role players: Tony Allen, Jarrett Jack, Nick Young, Matt Barnes, etc.

Pretty decent FA class.

I'm not sure if I want Chris Paul or DH12. Chris Paul and a post scorer would be perfect and way better than anything we could get with just Dwight

Milsap and Iguodala as well.

CP360 expected to stay with Flop City.

Vinny not expected to be back. Maybe a Byron Scott reunion with CP3?

there's "zero chance" of Paul giving up the fifth year and nearly $30 million extra guaranteed that he can earn only by re-signing with the Clips.

Might as well bump this up.

If Dwight Howard doesn't sign with LA, do Laker fans become Clipper fans or have they already joined the Heat Nation?

Already a ton of discussion in the Spurs thread.

This Monta Ellis piece on ESPN was pretty interesting because it is so scattered on potential locations.

Also because Monta is in for a rude, OJ Mayo type awakening when he finds out that he isn't going to get what he thinks he is worth.

quote:
1. Which team should Monta Ellis sign with this summer?

Posted Image
Kevin Arnovitz, ESPN.com: Phoenix Suns. The Suns probably aren't going to sniff the playoffs for a couple of seasons and need a ton of help after ranking 29th last season in offensive efficiency. With Phoenix, Ellis will help with the "offensive," not so much with the "efficiency."

Jim Cavan, KnickerBlogger: Dallas Mavericks. There are so many moving parts in this scenario it's almost painful to think about, but two things are clear: O.J. Mayo will likely decline his $4.2 million player option, and the Mavs desperately need a second scorer next to an aging Dirk Nowitzki. Milwaukee reportedly prefers Ellis to Brandon Jennings, but even it wouldn't match a deep Mark Cuban pocket reach.

Danny Chau, Hardwood Paroxysm: Memphis Grizzlies, in a signing that would shake the analytics community to its core. It would be the most un-Hollinger acquisition John Hollinger could make, but it could work. Ellis would have to leave his as-good-as-Dwyane-Wade delusions in Milwaukee, but he would be an ideal sixth man if he arrives with an open mind and a willingness to adapt.

Ethan Sherwood Strauss, ESPN Insider: Houston Rockets. Because it seems as though Dwight Howard likes Monta's game, perhaps Houston should consider an offer? It'd be mildly amusing to see an analytics-conscious organization put in for Monta's inefficient ways, and it's sometimes worth it to cater to a superstar's irrational wants. Personally, I'd stay away from Ellis. His style shouldn't age well and it's not clear that he's a help to teams right now.

Jack Winter, WarriorsWorld: Atlanta Hawks. By opting out of his contract and reportedly turning down Milwaukee's extension offer, Ellis has made it clear he wants a change of scenery. Whether or not he'll be happy in the role smart teams will afford him, though, is another thing entirely. He's a good fit in Atlanta as a sixth man, where his scoring talents combined with Al Horford's defensive ability fills a team need and fixes an individual problem. Good luck, Monta.

Monta Ellis actually kind of makes sense as a 6th man for a team like Memphis, but I don't see them actually doing it. They just fired a coach for not being analytical-y enough and Ellis is not a good player by that rubric. Then again, I think a good methodical team needs a little bit of crazy, ideally coming off the bench.

Problem with Ellis is he has a huge ego, he is crazy and he is wildly inefficient.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I wasn't really paying attention when I typed that last post, did I really use rubric in a sentence?!

Ellis isn't a guy that I really like, but he would give the Grizzlies something that they completely lack and might be a little more efficient against the second unit. If his ego won't let him come off the bench, then he makes no sense.
Guitarsoup

I don't think he agrees to come off the bench. Part of the reason he let GSW. He knew he was better than Curry and they couldn't both play 2.

I'd rather have OJ.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He takes a lot more shots, but I'm not so sure he's better for a team. 4 more points and 1.5 more assists, but more turnovers and lower FG%, 3PT%, and FT%.

When Ellis is hot he's incredible, but over the course of a season... eh. I'd kind of like to run a comparison analysis for total points... adjust for percentages compared to the average NBA percentage, adjust for turnovers, advanced defensive stats, lineup impact, etc. They are both negative plus/minus players.

Given equal salaries, I'd rather have Monta.

But given their salaries, based on their past year, I'd rather have OJ.

Throw Tyreke in this discussion as well. I think they would all be great 6th man type of players.

But for them all, ppg and being announced as the starter is more important (it appears) than winning ball games.

All three of those guys have a Memphis connection. OJ (Grizz) and Tyreke (Tigers) played there, and Monta owns a house there because I think his wife works there.
I just don't Hollinger taking any of them unless it is at a very efficient price.

Iowa you really think Memphis will bring back OJ?
Iowaggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?

It depends on what the relationship was between OJ and Joerger.

Hollins wasn't his biggest fan, and I would add Carlisle into that non-fan club.

Realistically, I see OJ going somewhere like Sacramento or Charlotte, especially if the Hornets prayers are answered and Ben Gordon would opt out of his deal. I don't blame a player for trying to get as much money as possible.

Realistically, even though there is talk of bringing in Evans, OJ, or Monta, I predict that 0 of those players are being considered by the FO.

Carl Landry is also among those who have opted out of their player options. That's a player I wouldn't mind having at a cheap deal.

He's a solid player but seeing that he opted out of $4M, I'm assuming he's looking for more than that. Dunno if he's worth it.

My draft wish list of reasonable candidates at 28

1.Gorgui Dieng (mocks have him dropping some but i dont see him being there)

2. Tony Snell

3.Allen Crabbe

4.Glen Rice

5.Jamaal Franklin

6.Reggie Bullock

Or just looking for long term.

The word on the street is that guys are going to be asking for 4-5 year contracts, but teams want to limit them to 2-3 years to keep the teams flexible.

Sher Thing

Not sure what I think of Gobert. So up and down. If he's there, I'll trust the Spurs with whatever they decide.

If Spurs don't see anyone who can help immediately then they will prob go draft n stash with Jean Charles.

I feel like your posts could have gone in a different thread... Lol

Anyway, I like your list and for the most part agree. I'm not a huge fan of Rice or Crabbe. I think Gobert is worth a look because you can't teach that length. I also like Muscala; I'd rather we get him in the second (would have to move up in 2nd), but I think his advanced offensive game could make him very serviceable off the bench.
1. Dieng (won't fall that far)
2. Snell
3. Franklin
4. Bullock
5. Gobert/Muscala
