I agree with everything you said, but I don't think we have the talent to be able to pass on a guy like Howard if we have a chance to acquire him. He had some dominant years in Orlando, and in my opinion he is worth the risk to see if he can replicate that success w/ us. But it is definitely a risk, no doubt

The caveat is "if healthy" - Howard is a top 3 player...well he will never regain the athleticism from before the injury issues, so what are you left with for $20+mm

Dwight, despite being far from 100%, was still 2nd in the league in double doubles, 1st in rebounds, top 5 in blocks, and tied 1st in points per shot with KD.

McHale is as good a coach for DH as anyone.

Dwightmare had Patrick Ewing for five years and has worked out with Hakeem.

I don't see McHale making any major changes with him. He needs a Phil Jackson to get his head in check more than McHale to teach him a soft hook.

dwight wants to be a laker. he just doesn't want D'Antoni. and the lakers won't fire D'Antoni for Dwight. so he'd deciding if he likes or doesn't like that.

Don't let the Rockets guys read that, they have the biggest boner for Dwight and dislike anyone who says he isn't going to be a Rocket next year.

He also improved his offensive game with Ewing and Hakeem, he has taken a step back this season whether it was the injuries or something else.

More than just learning offensive moves, Howard needs someone who can teach him how to be mentally tough and hold him accountable. McHale is pretty good on that side of things, and seems to be a pretty good coach overall.

And finally, just because McHale is as good a coach as anyone for Howard doesn't mean he can get Howard to be what people think he could be. Maybe that coach doesn't exist.

Personally, I'm a tad uneasy about bringing in a guy with as much baggage and mental issues as Dwight, and I have made that clear on this board. I think you are just looking for a fight that isn't there
