I hate the Lakers and always will. I never fully hated the Jazz and I hated that DRob didn't stand up to Malone as much as I would have liked. The Mavs and Suns were interesting almost-pseudo-rivals with plucky fans who would show up pretending to know about basketball and then disappear after being politely dismissed from the grownup table.

I like the Nuggets because I like George Karl and have friends in Denver who are as diehard about the Nuggets as I am about the Spurs and I respect their fandom and knowledge of the game. I pretty much don't care about any other team although there are players I enjoy watching.

Ok, to be fair, Battier draws a lot of charges.

When he was with the Fighting Whities, they used to practice how to run underneath an airborne opponent, fall down, and convince the Pavlovian ACC officials of their victimhood. Battier was the ring-leader.

I don't really care who wins. I'm over the whole "Hate Lebron and the Heat" thing. That's jealousy just like the Spurs hate.

I hope the Rockets have a big summer so we can start getting some Rockets hate around here.

Rockets thumbs down, wish they were the Spurs, 2 asterisk championships, something else here.

Does that get you feel a little better Frok?

as a Spurs fan living in Dallas since 2009, the amount of pure hatred towards the Spurs is scary. having your team called dirty, boring, asterisk's on championships, blah blah blah. you want to talk about an overconfident fan base? after every win its "We are the best team in the league", "our championship run was the greatest run in professional sports history", Dirk is greater than Duncan, etc. But thats fandom, you should feel your team is great.

that said, i dont HATE the mavs or their fans. they can get annoying, but any rival fan base is annoying to a degree, unless they are non-existent completely. and you bet your sweet little ass, i pulled for the Mavs when they played the Heat.

Only teams I truly despise are the Lakers, Yankees, Ph. Eagles and Chelsea FC.

and i definitely dont get that hatred towards the spurs. if its the fans being confident about their team, my response is that you would be too if it was your team. any fan base is confident when their team is perennially doing well. just so happens the Spurs have been making the playoffs 16 straight years....after that, who on the spurs is polarizing? who plays dirty? throws cheap elbows? anyone on the spurs a thug? do they have a lot of trash talkers?

America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

I remember suffering through the late 80's post Iceman as a Spurs fan.
I remember suffering through bad desicions and a David Robinson that need help in the 90's.

Since then it's all been good and the haters can suck it.

Go spurs Go.

Rooting for the Heat. Another title for the Heat makes 2011 more impressive.

There is something special about being from SA and being a lifelong Spurs fan. It's just the only show in town for a pretty big city. In Houston and Dallas they have everything sports wise. In Austin it is all about the sips.

I remember going to see Iceman play while he was still at the edge of his prime. It was a huge moment for me as a kid when he signed one of his Iceman posters for me. One time I was working at Kroger bagging groceries and got to take his stuff to his car. I just remember literally carrying 3 little bags to put in the back of his Porsche 928 and he was as friendly as could be, gave me a $5 tip, almost 2 bucks a bag.

Later when they drafted Robinson he came to SA and met with Ice. One of the things they talked about apparently is how Robinson could one day be "the guy" in the city in SA like Ice was, something you really can't do in most towns. At the time I thought it was impossible for any player to be as beloved as George Gervin in San Antonio. Never realized it was possible that now Ice is probably no higher than 3rd on the list.

I remember all of those years of the Spurs being really good but just not quite good enough. Honestly it was probably a lot like Mavs fans felt up until the '11 Title. Ice could never get through the Lakers in the Showtime years. Robinson always had Utah and to a lesser extent Houston (not meant as a flame but outside of that '95 Series the Spurs usually beat Houston, Utah was kryptonite with Stockton and Malone).

Then I remember late in the '99 Season the Spurs were in a tight race for the #1 Seed and they had a game at Utah. It was the kind of game the Spurs had always managed to come up short in. Not this time though. They won a tough one up in Salt Lake and it was really the turning point for the franchise. The monkey was off their back. Stockton and Malone never really threatened the Spurs after that and the Spurs just rolled through everyone in the playoffs to that first title. I just couldn't believe it after so many years of being good but just not good enough. Then the current run began and what a ride it has been.

It just amazes me how many people act as though the Spurs really weren't good until Duncan arrived. Really that was just when they took it up a notch. The run really started in 1978 with just a couple of hiccups in the late '80s and the one injury year in the '90s. They have 19 Division Titles in that span and been in the playoffs every year outside of those few.

Have any of y'all ever used the phrase "butthurt" in real life? Or heard someone that did? I heard someone say it the other day and it just sounded weird to actually hear somebody say that. I dont know why I found that so funny though

Yes I have. There is a guy at work who is on TexAgs way more than I am and was also using "kk" for Kingsbury in general conversation at lunch one day. It just sounds.....wrong.

Another Mavs fan here. I don't like either team, but I found myself pulling for the spurs last night. I have been trying to put my finger on it all day.

I don't dislike Lebron, and I think the 2011 championship pretty much exorcised my 2006 demons. And as for the Spurs, I recognize Duncan as the GOAT at the PF spot, but I don't like him. I could tell you it's the complaining, but he's gotten better about that. And he's been all class off the court. It's probably jealousy. I don't like Ginobilli, but that's only because hustle guys are annoying as a rule unless they are on your team.

There are a couple of players I really don't like in the series. I hate Chris Anderson. I dislike Haslem and Chalmers an unreasonable amount. I would like to see Ray Allen win a ring.

But if I'm being honest. Really and truly honest. The reason I'm pulling of the Spurs is because of the fanbases. Oh don't get me wrong; I don't like Spurs fans. At least on TexAgs anyway. But Spurs fans are loyal to their team, and they've been there for years. They are firey, and they love their team. I respect the hell out of that. And I don't even blame their fans for being arrogant of condescending. That's the right of the victor.

But Miami? You bought your team. You have terrible, celebrity frontrunning fans that go to games to be seen and for the scene. They covet individual play and fill out their rosters with BONERS (instead of Boner's).

So yeah, I don't like Miami Heat fans.

So Go Spurs Go.
