Didn't click, but Shawn Bradley is still alive and well. It was only his career that died

Story about James Felton, who was supposed to be the next great post player in AAU and ABCD. McGrady was a nobody and he threw down a nasty dunk on Felton.

I read the whole story, and I still don't understand how the plot is interesting.

Sounds like the dunk had little to do with it really. Sad story but the kid just didn't respect his gift or work on his game. He just wanted to show up and expected it all to happen. Sounded like a ton of people tried to help him but he just didn't care.

I think the culture of the entitled athlete is 100X more to blame than anything Tracy McGrady did.

Agree 93. I wonder how many guys are out there that are like that that we just never hear of. Guys that sit around and get fat or expect everything to be handed to them because they have a nice spin move and soft hands.

I don't want to know the answer honestly, it's just too depressing. I follow football recruiting a lot closer and if you consider how many 5 Stars or amazingly talented guys that just throw it all away it's just sad. A lot of it is many of those guys come from rough backgrounds with little support and lots of people looking to take advantage of them. They just don't role models to show them how to live responsibly or to teach them that you have to work hard to succeed.

Still, in the end every person is responsible for themselves. There are plenty of folks who came from nothing to be uber successful and there are plenty who had every advantage and the best parents but ended up as scumbags. Life is about choices and in the end people have to understand that every choice has consequences for good and for bad but learning to own your choices is the key to success and happiness.

Most people are lazy and very few reach their potential in anything.

I had classes with a lot of people a lot smarter than me that failed out of A&M or at least the degree program they were in because they couldn't get up in the morning or refused to do a little extra work outside of class.

One of my goals as a parent is to have my kids reach their potential in something early so they know what it takes (which is often not that much, just more than most are comfortable doing).

I remember reading about this dunk in 7th grade. Went from a nobody from Florida to the Man in one camp.

A lot of AAU stories like this. Amare Stoudemire x Deangelo Collins. LeBron James x Lenny Cooke. So many.
