I can relate OP. After the OSU loss in 2011, I did some real soul searching about my investment in sports. I found this, it's quite an interesting read for anyone who has ever felt the valleys and peaks that come with fandom.

Can't believe how many of you would take an NBA championship over an Aggie football MNC.

Aggies > any pro sport

I would take a Spurs Title over an A&M NC any day.

It's hard to explain, but it has to do with watching these same guys play for the last 15 years. With college sports you don't have near the connection to the teams/players. With the Spurs, there is this incredible connection between the city and the team/coach. It's pretty remarkable. I don't really know how else to put it.

There's a lot more emotionally at stake with a title in the nba. Winning one is a big deal, and the culture of the nba is more of a championship or bust mentality. In college football and MLB you can celebrate a successful season much easier without winning a title. The regular season carries much more emotional weight. A pennant is a big deal. A major bowl win is a big deal. Even a division or conference title is a big deal. Whereas in the nba everything short of the title feels closer to the same.

I'll never feel more pain than I did when the Mavs fell just short of the title, and never more fulfilled when they won. Look at the 94 Rockets and 99 Spurs carrying the burdens and failures of the entire cities on their backs when they broke through for that first title.
