Go Lakers!

Here's hoping Kobe and Pau spend the whole season "rehabbing" and the Lakers get the #1 pick (and a new/old coach to go with it) so they can make one more run.

Does Kobe go full meltdown and demand a trade if they have a bad season?

No, but he might murder D'Antoni (actually he might do that regardless)

Hey simplebay, Kobe only has two titles that count. The other three were Shaq's. Jordan had six.

Lol. Trolling the troll.

Do we dock Jordan for having Pippen? He didn't win any without him.

But Pippen didn't win any without Jordan. Kerr won 2 without Jordan. Horry won multiple titles without Kobe. Horry and Pippen both played for the Rockets. Therefore all six of Jordan's count.

How does Kevin Bacon fit into this?

This Lakers team could be playoff worthy.

They just need an overpriced shooting guard to come back to shoot them out of games, stand around on defense, and overvalue himself so that they can work their way out of the playoffs again.

This Lakers team lacks talent, but they are going to play with maximum effort every night - like their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Pau looks good and is getting healthier. He could be a nice trade chip later this season if it comes to that.

I'll just give this one a little bump this morning.

Lakers 5-3 in regular season games since the Bryant injury.

I expect them to lose at least 2 of next 3.

According to Peter Vecsey -

quote:
I'm hearing Nash's pain is forcing him 2 seriously consider calling it a career. He'd still get $ this yr & next & LA'd get cap relief next"

Since it's Peter V, that likely means Nash will return next week and be a frontrunner for MVP

Hopefully Nash retires - best thing for all parties involved.

wouldnt mind this guy remaining a laker. great off the bench.

What pay cut. The second greatest player of all time gets a near max 2 year extension.

Lakers still have cap space for one more max player next year

That's a lot of cash for someone with an uncertain future. But if anyone deserves it, it's Kobe.

I'm very happy he will stay a Laker. I'm not very happy he didn't sacrifice some $$$ in hopes of drawing in a couple of players in for one final run. This contract guarantees he will win no more rings. Hope the money was worth it Kobe.

Barring limiting injury that he would play thru, does anyone really think he won't average 25+ppg over the next 2.75 seasons.

And since they likely won't win a championship this year, you can be he really just wants to pass MJ on the all time scoring list. Maybe slap a Steve Nash type MVP if possible if they get bored of Lebron

I'm glad to see that Kobe didn't stoop to taking a pay cut like those players with championship aspirations did.

I would love to see Carmelo sign as a Laker so that D'Antoni's 7 second offense would return, because there is no way either one of those two guys would risk passing the ball 'les they not get it back, so whomever gets the ball from the PG first knows they might as well shoot it.

according to Stephen A Smith (who is actually fairly on point about these things- Dight to LA, dwight the f out of LA)

Carmelo is 100% a Laker next year.

Kobe did in fact take a "pay cut." Had he asked for it, he would've been able to get 32.8 million next season, instead he got 23.5

The years however are no indication of his playing, as the max is 2 due to the Over 36 rule.

Happy for Kobe. Even if he took a pay cut, the chances of the Lakers building a championship caliber team around him were slim to none. This way Kobe guarantees the team sell outs for two more seasons, Kobe rides off into the sunset with a fat bag of money, and the Lakers show potential free agents how we take care of our own.

I'll pass on a 30 year old Carmelo along with any of the pretty good guys who will demand max dollars (e.g. Rudy Gay) this offseason. We need that money to bring Kevin Love back home to LA and pair him with another superstar.
