Brandon Roy was a recent guy that comes to mind. Don't think he was destined for all-time greatness, but he was really good. And his injury was catastrophic, never even got to play half speed.

Dejuan Wagner comes to mind for me.
He was an absolute killer before he arrived to the NBA.
Sustained 1 injury and was never the same.

I didn't think he was particularly good while at Memphis (poor shooting percentage, no outside shot, low assist numbers) or during his rookie season. And it wasn't just one injury; it was injuries along multiple health problems, including ulcerative colitis.
McGrady. He could have been far greater.
I think I read that Len B died on his first try. Not sure if that is correct.

What if you wrapped up the “Flu Game” by Jordan, “The Duel” by Bird and Wilkins, and added a dash of Willis Reed? Then you get Bernard battling Isiah in Game 5 with a 102 fever and mangled hands that were getting freeze-sprayed throughout the game. In Jordan’s famous 1997 “Flu Game”, he scored 38 points on 48% shooting. In Bernard’s Flu/Duel/Freeze-Spray Game he topped Jordan with 44 points on 65% shooting. There would be no pictures of an old-school King bending over or being held up by his teammates — only his legendary game face.
