Kobe done for the season

There was no way Kobe was going to be allowed to play in this crap season for the Lakers so it should be no surprise they finally shut him down.

I wonder how many playoff series Kobe would have won if not paired with an All NBA player?

How much different would he be than Carmelo or CP3?

More of a general question than a comparison to Carmelo.

Ultimately you can say that about every star to win a title.

Would Tim win #1 without David? Or 2-3 without TP or Manu?

Popular comparison being Jordan and Pippen. We know Jordan was the best, but would he have been like Melo without Pippen?

Tim might have won #2 with any competent supporting cast. That was before TP and Manu were stars. In the playoffs, Duncan averaged more PPG than both of them combined (24.7 to 24.1), almost as many assists (5.3 to 6.1) and threw in 15.4 rebounds and 3.3 blocks. He put up an ORtg of 116 and a DRtg of 92 over the course of that playoffs.

I'm not really a Bryant scholar, so I don't know if he has anything similar on his resume. Just pointing out that there are (very rare) occasions where one player carries a team to a title. I don't think a player should be judged for not pulling that off, but at the same time Kobe should probably get a healthy asterisk for the Shaq championships.

Not defending Buss here, but would things have really been that different with Sr. and Phil Jackson around?

Weren't both around in 2011 when the team gave about 0 effort and got swept out of the playoffs against the Mavs?


Wasn't Phil complaining about Pau's effort, and Bynum didn't exactly weep when he left the Lakers and Kobe.


Laker's fans and media love to blame D'antoni and Buss Jr., but I'm not sure things would be so different with SR and Phil around.
