I never considered Parish to be an elite big man. A really good player, but he was definitely the "bosh" of the Big 3. For the Lakers, all 3 were top 10 all time at their positions...probably top 5 at the time they played. As for the Spurs, only Duncan would be that elite. However, the Spurs trio have all had the ability to dominate the game at times. I remember watching Duncan and Randolph Childress leading WFU to the ACC tourney title in 1995 - amazing to see him still going.

Also: the dunk!

Every time I see a replay, I swear I don't think he's gonna make it to the rim.

Come on, Nash sold that like a panhandling insurance-fraud scheme. Looked like he stepped on an IED or something.

Yep. By the time he stretches his arm, he looks like he's already on the way down.

Always enjoyed how much Suns fans hated us.

I really enjoyed the year that everyone said the Spurs were too slow to hang with the Suns, their 7 second offense would be too much for the stodgy, creaky old grind-it-out Spurs... and then we ran them out of the gym playing their game.

Is there any place to see a list of all-time NBA players in order of winning percentage? I'm trying to do that on basketball reference but they only have a list by "win share", some metric they invented for that website.

I have to think the big 3 are in the top 10, individually.

My grandfather-in-law lives in PHX. They still hate the Spurs. It's awesome.

I can verify that. My Argentina ginobili jersey gets the worst looks.

.4 and Manu's foul have been tough to get over. It took years, and even then I still get upset about it every now and again

This happens every time I see Fisher's stupid fat face.

This stretch was an awesome rivalry in the early 00's

And the only season without 50 wins was in the 50-game season of 99, when the Spurs were on pace for 60 wins.

I think the Spurs beat that Pistons' team. The Lakers seemed to think they had it won after they beat the Spurs and after they split the first 2 in LA they just got rolled 3 in a row in Detroit. The Spurs matched up a lot better with Detroit as well than the Lakers.

I just rewatched the Fisher .4 shot. I think I'm going to be sick.

How? How does that go in? I remember thinking at the time that was the payment for Duncan's only slightly less impressive shot the play before.

The Spurs could have won the title in 04, but it wasn't guaranteed. The Pistons were a damn good team. In 06, though, I feel like the Spurs had a 90+% chance of beating Miami. Bowen would have harassed Wade into mediocre games and the rest of the team wasn't capable of picking up the slack.

And last year was just... ugh.

The Spurs were 2 plays away from 6 titles and another play away from a great shot at #7. And hell if Duncan hadn't injured his knee in 2000, there's no telling what would have happened. At that point, the Lakers weren't quite the juggernaut that they were in 01&02; the Spurs might have been able to beat them in 2000.

It just goes to show that winning a title requires a great team, great coaching, and a decent bit of luck too. A miracle shot here or there, an untimely injury, a stupid foul/foul call... these can all derail a title run. It's pretty wild to think that you wouldn't have to change very much to get the Spurs to 6-8 titles at which point they're up there with Jordan's Bulls and Russell's Celtics as one of the best dynasties of all time.

We also probably shouldn't overlook when the Spurs were defending champions and Barry went to take a three to tie the series 2-2 and he was tackled by Fisher. Both the NBA and Joey Crawford said it should have been called. If that had been called correctly, Spurs might have won that series, too and played for the title against Boston.

Point is, and I've said this for years, Spurs have been the best team in sports since the Duncan era started.

Most consistent maybe. You need another ring to claim being the best.

When I hear some bozo say "I just hate the spurs...they're boring", it's a sign they really don't know anything about basketball, and care more about entertainment.

They are the antithetical NBA team. Teamwork, fundamentals.....not as entertaining perhaps, but effective.

Plus the Spurs have Manu, who good or bad is one of the most exciting players in the NBA. He makes crazy passes, tries crazy drives and is one of the least predictable players in the NBA. Parker takes anyone in the NBA to the rack. Pretty exciting. Duncan - pretty boring, but great all around. Maybe one of the most balanced players ever.

Tim Duncan has four 40-15 games... in the playoffs.

He also has 7 triple doubles, 8 games with 8+ blocks (all of which came in double-doubles), 32 20-20 games, 10 30-20 games, and of course the legendary 21-20-10-8 closeout game in the NBA finals.
