I'm no lawyer, but I believe the difference between the Sterling recording and Candid Camera is that the TV show is filmed out in public as opposed to in someone's home. There's no reasonable expectation for privacy. Not really any different than TMZ recording celebs walking out of a night club.

Geez, people were predicting $750 million when this whole story broke, with very few predicting that a sale could max out at $1 billion.

The brushback could be that he doesn't want to pay half a billion dollars to the government in capital gains taxes and would rather leave it to his kids than give Obama a red cent. Remember, he hates black people, so he doesn't want to give money to Obama and he still calls it a red cent because he remembers when there was an Indian on it.
He will hold out for $3B. Just watch.
I could very well see him turn this down out of spite and then pay his lawyers 7-figures to fight the NBA out of principle.

League can't sell it for him. They can only vote to contact the team, which they won't do.
The reports today seemed to indicate that terminating his ownership meant the league would control the sale. Before today my interpretation was the same as you though.

That would solve this problem really quickly if true.

Damn, that's a really generous offer. I guess she doesn't mind given Ballmer's Billions.
Sterling has certainly made off like a bandit in the whole ordeal. Gets a huge ROI, gets to sue the NBA, and indirectly gets to take money out if his ex-wife's hands
Apparently he's got Alzheimer's. Blecher may want to rethink this.
