Yep

Unquestionably:

1 - Magic Johnson
2 - Michael Jordan
3 -
4 - Tim Duncan
5 -

The rest is up for debate.

I believe he meant for the all-time starting 5

well that makes way more sense.

if that's the case....

1- Magic
2- Jordan
3- Lebron
4- Timmy
5- The Dream

I can't imagine another team scoring more than 85 points a game against this squad, not to mention this team would probably score about 110 per game.

I would LOVE to see this lineup, all in their prime. All time dream team.

1. Magic
2. Jordan
3. Lebron
4. Timmy
5. Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Kareem played 20 seasons ans till averaged 24 ppg. Let's not get into all those other little details, like being a NBA All-star for 19 years

Hate it when Houston fans argue than Hakeem was a better PF, when he was always a 5.

Kareem doesn't work hard enough on defense. And lots of times, he didn't even run down court. And he didn't really try... except during the playoffs.

I've argued this for a whole but he is the leading scorer by a large margin and played so well every year he was in the league. So it's tough.

Probably the same people that discount Timmy and call him a career C at times. Bullsh.

Sorry but Kareem has the best overall resume of anyone and deserves to be the the top Center over Hakeem.

6X Champion
6X MVP
All Time Leading Scorer
19X All Star

He was the best player in the NBA in the 70's and was still really good in the '80s. He was better offensive than defensive but still very good defensively, he led the league in blocks 4X.

Dream > kareem...Dream did things that Kareem wish he could have done on the court..To argue otherwise is foolish.

Plus Kareem played with All Stars on his team in LA

Care to list who was the best player on the first title win? Vernon Maxwell?

And here is the 82 Roster for the Lakers

quote:
5 Jordan | 8 Brewer | 10 Nixon | 11 McAdoo | 21 Cooper | 25 Kupchak | 30 McKenna | 31 Rambis | 32 E. Johnson (Finals MVP) | 33 Abdul-Jabbar | 34 C. Johnson | 40 McGee | 52 Wilkes | 54 Landsberger | Coach Riley

Better than both Rockets rosters the years they won.

That was a much more talented team than Rockets fans want to give credit for. SIX players with 9+ points per game in the playoffs in 94. Four players with 4+ APG. That team had great defense, great shooting, and a dominant big man.

For Guitarsoup...

How about this.. Kareem was just a better player. It's no knock on Hakeem. I don't care who played with these two guys while they played in the finals etc. Kareem was just a better player.

If I'm selecting a player by position to build a dream team and they are all in their prime. At the #5 position I'm going with Kareem, if he's not available, Shaq... then Hakeem. You can't go wrong with any of the 3. They all had their pros and cons. Kareem simply had the more "pros"

If I am selecting a team, I pick Hakeem 10 times out of 10 over Shaq.

If I am selecting a player at their peak that could dominate like no one else, I might pick Shaq because he did that for much longer than Hakeem.

I don't think Shaq was a great team player, he showed up out of shape year after year and the Lakers, Heat, Cavs, Suns and Celtics weren't exactly sad to see him leave their team. Plus Hakeem was the better defender and passer.

Im sorry but the better all around player was the dream..He had to carry his team..Simply put if he doesnt dominate in the final those two years rockets have no other options...

Kareem had one the best players ever to play the game in Magic.

If only Kareem had played for mediocre teams then he woulda had the chance to be the greatest center of all time

Kareem had won six MVPs before Magic could buy his own alcohol.

It's a shame his legacy is so tarnished by playing with the best PG ever.

Kareem vs The Dream debate is a little silly. If you want the player over his whole career you pick Kareem. If you want them at their 5-8 year peak you pick Dream. It is a very similar argument to Dream vs Duncan.

Kareem averaged 34.8p/16.6r/4.6a in 72 and blocks and steals weren't counted yet, but likely a **** ton of those as he averaged 1.2s/3.5bpg the first seven years the league counted blocks.

Some of you guys need to realize that Kareem was freaking 33 years old in 1980 and won the last of his 6 MVP's. If you are comparing mid to late 80s Kareem against Hakeem in his prime? Of course Hakeem wins. Kareem played into his 40's.

Kareem was ridiculous in the '70s though and just really, really good in the 80's. Realize that the dunk was actually banned for a time in college basketball because Kareem used the shot so effectively, though everyone remembers him for the sky hook.

I don't even like Kareem, he's pretty much an arrogant jerk. To deny his greatness though just shows a lack of basketball knowledge. He had a lengthy span as the unquestioned greatest basketball player on the planet, it was just pre-Bird/Magic and most people don't think about that time period.

I don't think anyone is denying his greatness. I would rank his NBA career ahead of Dream/Shaq/etc, but it gets debatable when you break it into shorter periods of time.

I will agree that those of us old enough to remember his playing days are tainted by how much of an a-hole he was.

I think the more interesting discussion is who do you rate higher: Kareem, Wilt, or Russell. There is no wrong answer there.

I rate Kareem higher.

Wilt obviously was a stat ***** and had a distinct lack of titles.

Russell was a team guy, but not a dominating player offensively. I'm also much less impressed with guys winning titles when there was only eight teams and they were in cities like Fort Wayne, Syracuse and Rochester. It was more like an 8-team Harlem Globetrotters league.

Kareem could dominate on both ends of the court.
