Tillman sucks.
That is all.
Why do Houston sports teams usually have the worst owners?
Softest, most "I'm just happy to have a team!" fanbases.
This is an explanation that I've grown tired of.
I've watched sports for a very long time. I'm not sure the fans have much to do with winning. Intelligence, Money, prestige, climate and luck are much bigger factors than the complacency of a fan base.
I don't think the Lakers are good because they have fans that "demand" excellence. Thats horse crap.
They win because premiere athletes want to live in L.A. Most LA fans barely care about sports...the weather is too nice.
The core argument is also made about the Texans ineptitude. "Texans fans will still show up and support a crappy franchise, so it has no incentive to get better". That same argument is never made for the Astros...for obvious reasons. Interestingly though, it was the city's complacency with losing that ultimately made the Astros great.
Clearly, an easily appeased fan based is an asset. You can tank for several years, amass talent and then make periodic challenges for a title. A smart owner/GM should be able to leverage this unique quirk of Houston to put together championship level teams. That is exactly how we got Hakeem and the 1994/5 titles! Recently, we have been
unlucky to be saddled with selfish and or stupid owners. I have no control over who runs these teams...no fan does.
I think this excuse persists because fans always want to believe they have some role in team success. Whether it be cheering, believing, stupid superstition, or even blaming others for not being "hard"...we just want to believe we matter. We don't. We are just slave to the billionaire roulette wheel. Some are intelligent, some are bullies and some are trust fund babies.
