Well, as of today Kareem also played in 150 games more than LeBron has played.

So ~1,800 more field goals over pretty much two whole seasons more isn't that illuminating.

Wouldn't underestimate the shift to three point shots across the league and the advancements in medical technology that will allow people to de-age/play well into their 40's. That already exists in mouse models.

I'm not saying it will definitively be broken, but I'm not confident it won't be.

Idk. Probably the 2 that have the best chance are Kevin Durant and Luka…durant is injured seemingly every year and luka doesnt have a body type that can sustain nba play for 20 more years. Lebrons longevity is special

Visualization of all of James' shots over the years. Pretty nifty to watch.

Not sure how much stock to put into a 23-year old's words, but Luka already said he doesn't want to play that long. I kind of believe him. I can see him retired by 33 with two rings and 26,000 points living in Europe fat as hell smoking two packs a day on a yacht.

The only person who will be able to break it will be another LeBron, who has a completely mature body at a young age and is immediately scoring 25+ as a rookie and through those early seasons when most guys are still developing.

You're right though, it will have to be someone who has the mindset to be the best of all time from the get go and basically never gets hurt, because for a lot of guys, retiring at 33 with $400 million versus retiring at 38 with $500 million isn't going to be much of a desire to go another 5 years. They will also need a coach like Mike Brown who has zero offensive strategy other than "Give it to Lebron" for several years.

It's not going to be anyone in the league right now. It's going to be a bigger athletic guy like Lebron that grew up shooting 3's at a 40% clip that comes into the league early.

This dude is 38 and still averaging 30/8/7. He dropped a pretty casual 36 points in three quarters to break the record. It's ****ing amazing how good he still is after all these years.

As did this on LBJ's record breaking shot:

What's the NBA going to do when Russell Westbrook passes the 50,000 turnover mark and his 20,000th missed three-pointer?

Harden has missed more threes than Westbrick has even shot

I feel like LBJ gets the short end of the stick in a lot of comparisons because he's lived fully in the Internet/social media age, something that Kobe only partially did and Jordan never had to worry about.

Jordan is still alive and he still doesn't post online, while many of his contemporaries do such as Magic and Barkley. Jordan mostly keeps his opinions to himself. My guess is Phil Knight explained to him that he needs to control his image and he became an icon. The lasting non-game memories of Jordan were him playing basketball with kids in McDonalds and Gatorade commercials and stuff like that. Flashing that huge smile. He built an incredible image that we know isn't exactly what he is. But Jordan was invested in creating that image, so whoever guided Jordan in that was brilliant.

My guess is Jordan took the marketing advice of Phil Knight and Nike and didn't just hire his buddies from Wilmington, NC to guide him.

LeBron hired his buddies from Akron. He could have followed Michael's lead, but chose not to. I don't think that is all about the Social Media age. We never saw other superstars like Duncan, Dirk, Giannis, etc publicly ****ing up or putting their foot in their mouth.

I can't recall anything this great from Bron's camp:

Quote:

Every time LeBron says something stupid or reads the first page of the book, it's everywhere. If Magic Johnson and Charles Barkley and Jordan had played in the era of social media, their personal foibles would have been lambasted on the daily.

Barkley's were lambasted all the time. And that's why stupid ass sip Red McCombs vetoed a trade of Sean Elliott for Charles Barkley before Barkley was eventually traded to the Suns for Andrew Lang and Hornacek. Red was wanting to sell the team and thought that if he had a bad guy on the team like Barkley, it would be more difficult to get as high a price. So he only wanted nice guys like Robinson and Elliott. Then the Spurs were sold and the new owners immediately traded for Dennis Rodman.

Quote:

That said, as a basketball fan who cut his teeth in the 1980s, I don't see LeBron even close to Michael Jordan. At their primes, Jordan would have eviscerated him mentally in a series matchup. Kobe as well had the killer instinct that LeBron has never shown. I'd also put Magic Johnson above him. He hasn't played in almost 30 years and there's still never been another player like him.

I think I would start my team with Jordan over Bron, but no way I take Magic over Bron. I'd rather watch Showtime than LeBron cry, but LeBron is a much better scorer and a much better defender than Magic. Physically, LeBron is better and talent-wise, Bron has more tools.

Another difficulty of breaking the record is that Bron came out of HS and that is not allowed anymore. Anyone that comes in the league ready to be a #1 scorer now loses a prime year. Bron scored 1650 points as a rookie. Just under what he scored last year at age 37.

I'm not talking about what they would post on social media, I'm talking about what they were up to in their playing days. Jordan was gambling away millions of dollars, but there was no way to easily post and share photos of him at the casino at 2 a.m the night of a game. The weird thing about how his father got murdered would have been an Internet conspiracy field day for decades. The rumor that Stern told him to leave the league for a year because of his gambling would have been everywhere.

Barkley and Magic f*cked anything that moved while they were in the league. Barkley threw a guy through a plate glass window while he was in Houston. Think how that would have effected his career if it had been caught on camera and put on Twitter and You Tube. My point being those guys bad behavior off the court would have been hurting their reputations.

Those things were all over the place as it was. The window bar fight was when Chuck was in Philly, not Houston.

My point is that Jordan would have acted different of cameras were everywhere. He always acted to perfect him image and still does. We know he's a huge gambler but we still don't see those pics out because he protects him image

I'm usually one to let LeBron slander slide, but this wasn't like a single-game record or something. This was over a 20-year sample size. 20 years of evolving defense. Did this against prime Duncan, Ben Wallace, etc. LMAO.

Kind of cool how that tracks the PACE chart:

Queen James has always hand picked most of the players he's played with. Michael made average players around him better through the manner in which he played.

Queen James is probably more talented than MJ, but MJ got more out of his talent and had the "killer instinct", while Queen James will flop, or complain about officiating. Loser mentality.

That chart doesn't go back far enough, but in the early 60s the pace was at 130 possessions per game. It was just a bunch of guys running around throwing up bad shots as fast as they could, though, which is why the rebounding numbers were so high at that time (in 1962, Detroit had a player that averaged 10.4 rebounds per game, which was good for third-best on his team, for example).

I'm convinced the greatest of all time has as much to do with time and perception as it does accomplishments. Eventually all the people who learned how to play basketball and watched it in the late 80's and 90's like I did when it was Jordan, Bird and Magic are gonna fade away. Then all the early millennials and zoomers will dominate the conversation and Lebron will overtake Jordan as the consensus greatest of all time. He's done enough at this point to belong in the argument even though I'll never think he's better than Jordan.

Players clearly evolve through time too. His scoring record isn't unbreakable and I believe it will be broken in our lifetimes. These crazy volume scorers are just way more prevalent now. Longevity is the key for sure, but that's evolved miles too with sports medicine.

The Anthony Davis angle is just bizarre. What's he doing here? The video of this moment is even more damning as it's clear Lebron is about to take a shot to perhaps break the record, and AD goes to sit down at that moment.

I can't imagine this goes over well with the team and you wonder if this explains what's been going on with the Lakers for the past 2 years. You'd think a duo of AD and LBJ could at least make the playoffs, but if you add in the fact that they hate each other, now it makes sense why they can't win.

Im not the biggest Lebron guy...but this is where he really amazes me.

He lived up to the hype. He surpassed the hype he had coming out of high school

I can remember being on this board and people saying that there was no way this high school kid could be as good as the media was saying he was.
Truth be told....I was also one of those people.

Lebron is about the only super, super hyped recruit that exceeded expectations.

Made me go look for some old Bron posts.

https://texags.com/forums/7/topics/234571/replies/2746172

Apparently a rumor about Tor trading #4 (bosh pick) for Ricky Davis and MIhm. With bonus poster saying Darko would be ROY.

Looks like Seven already went back to delete his embarrassing post about LeBron:
https://texags.com/forums/7/topics/214095/replies/2493529

Also, sadly, LeBron didn't forgo the NBA to play with Antoine Wright, like I posted.

Deep in the: you need a great post player era, a discussion on who would go #1 if drafted the same year, Yao or LeBron: https://texags.com/forums/7/topics/272142/replies/3203121

I thought Melo wins ROY: https://texags.com/forums/7/topics/271879/
Melo put up 21/6/3 and LeBron put up 21/6/6. Melo got 40 1st place Votes, Bron got 78 and no one else got one.

Season predictions: https://texags.com/forums/7/topics/270990/r

More Bron vs Melo: https://texags.com/forums/7/topics/213833/

Some good LeBron hating: https://texags.com/forums/7/topics/216730/

I forgot that Memphis had a shot at getting the #1 and #2 picks because they had their pick that went to Detroit Top1 protected (ended as Darko #2) and the Rockets pick #13 - Marcus Banks as part of the Steve Francis trade.
You would have been adding the top two picks (LeBron+Melo? or Bosh?) to a team with
C Lorenzen White 27yo (he put up 11/8 that year)
PF/C Pau Gasol 22yo
PF Stromile Swift 22yo (Had they already given up hope he was going to get better?)
Wing Wesley Person 31yo (traded after draft for Bonzi Wells)
Wing Mike Miller 22yo
Wing Shane Battier 24yo
Point Jason Williams 27yo "White Chocolate"
Point Earl Watson 22yo

That would have been a crazy team to add two guys like LeBron/Wade or LeBron/Bosh. Most thought Melo was the clear #2 player, but with Person, Miller, and Battier plus LeBron, I feel like Bosh or Wade fits that team better than Bron+Melo. Anyway, interesting to think about.

Other than LeBron's bestie DWade, what stars have seemed to genuinely enjoy playing with him? I think the only people who like playing with him are the ones that use the same agent because they tend to get way overpaid.

I am sure his micromanagement gets old. I just don't get the vibe that he is a stellar locker room guy.

You can find both. Lots of guys liked him (Ray Allen, Wade, Haslem, Kuz) and lots that didn't like him (Love, Chandler, Chalmers, assume Anthony Davis)

I know some players like playing with him, but I am talking about bonafide superstars and All-Stars that liked playing with him.

So the Lakers gave up future asset to try and get to playoffs.

QUESTION: Where do they finish the season?

With 23 games remaining after ASG, the Lakers sit 27-32, 13th in West.

10th place in the West is the Thunder at 28-29. Pelicans, T'Wolves and Warriors sit 7-9th. The sinking Jazz and Portland are also in front of them. Lakers have 6th easiest remaining schedule, but the younger OKC team has 5th easiest. They play each other twice.

So will the Lakers be able to jump 3 teams just to get to the 10th spot?

I'm going to guess that they don't.

NOLA still needs a point guard and Zion is hurt again.

Clippers got a little deeper, but still need a point guard.

I could see the Lakers passing both of them. Really app depends on who stays healthy
