Holiday doesn't belong on the court

Two pieces of delicious crow for me this morning.

1) I like to diss Jabari Smith, but he potentially save the game with his late block, and had a good night on offense.

2) I think the NBA Cup is pretty dumb, but getting this team some early national exposure is nice, and having 50 new posts on the board is nice as well.

Jabari might be turning a corner. His shot is becoming more reliable and his defense meshes perfectly with Tari/Amen. I started the year on the Jabari hate train, but he has pretty much won me over.

I've been down on Jabari and Green but I'd rather have Jabari long term because defense travels and he plays it.

Fell asleep a few minutes into the third quarter last night (I guess I'm finally getting old as I used to be able to stay up for the entirety of a west coast game) but glad to see another W.

This team is so much fun. I just hope they keep rolling and trending up.

Why is it dumb? If you make it to the championship game, it's one extra game you have to play. Every other game counts as a regular season game. It allows the NBA to place a little more meaning to these games.

Besides the hideous courts, I seenothing bad about it.

Plenty of time before contract talk comes around for a guy 1/3 way through rookie year

Loving the defensive intensity in this game, but the passing on both sides has been subpar

Good for these guys to get a playoff feeling before the playoffs

just my 2 cents, but Sheppard is in an odd situation. He's been a starter on every team he's been on ever, and if the Rockets had drafted him two years ago, he would have been already playing starter's minutes for the Rockets.
But with Van Vleet playing well, and so many guys able to play PG in short bursts, he's stuck on the bench. I haven't seen him enough to know what his defense is like, but if you're not a good defender - other than Green who is your volume guy - there's no point in you being out there for long stretches. And a lot of guys just aren't very good in short bursts off the bench, it's hard to come out and play well for 2 minutes at the end of the quarter and then you're back on the bench. 30 years ago, Sam Cassell was a rookie and got on the court by being a bulldog on defense. Scotty Brooks was too small to be that good at defense, so when the Rockets needed a break from Kenny Smith - foretold in Bible to be the worst defender in human history - Sam found his niche and then started showing he was a shooter too.

He was talked about as one of the best defenders in the draft.

If Adams' arms are gonna be pulled down every rebound attempt and foul only called 10% of the time then it's not worth playing him

Defense

Reed Sheppard may face an uphill battle defensively in the NBA due to his 6-foot-3 height and slightly longer than 6-foot-3 wingspan. The main questions then become: Does he hold his own on that end of the floor despite his lack of size? Will he be targeted for mismatches in the NBA? How much value does he provide in other ways defensively?
Defense: Areas of Improvement

While Reed Sheppard has shown flashes of lateral quickness, he gives up too many driving angles. Even if this was partially scheme-based, both Sheppard's technique on-ball and lateral quickness must improve if he wishes to not be targeted in the NBA. Additionally, his lack of relative strength can lead to him fighting for defensive position.

Defense: Strengths

Despite giving up too many driving lanes and being undersized by NBA standards, Sheppard adds value on the defensive end in a unique way: his hand-eye coordination allows for him to generate a multitude of steals and blocks. Whether it's his excellent hands on-ball, genius positioning in passing lanes, or a calculated contest deterring a shot, Sheppard provides value defensively to counteract his lack of on-ball defensive prowess.
