I think it is Feb 6th. Trade season opens on Dec 15th when trade restrictions on players signed in the offseason expire. So Dec 15-Feb 6th is trade season.

It's shocking that Jimmy Butler is having an ugly end in Miami since it ended so well in Minnesota and Philadelphia.

I'm curious what deals could be done that aren't horrible for Miami with the new trade rules. Is the a GSW trade that can be done.

Big problem is Jimmy is 35 and teams don't want to give up a lot of assets for Jimmy not knowing if he will resign and how much money do you want to invest in him for your age 36 and 37 years?

I think Miami would be lucky to get a first and ending contracts.

Miami wants ending contracts and/or picks. Lakers aren't great on that front.

I think the Jazz are looking at this as a chance to acquire an unprotected pick in exchange for 3 protected picks.

The first of those picks comes this year and comes from Cleveland which will be a really late first rounder.

There is a limit to how many guys you can roster and the Jazz likely don't want to be locked into a guaranteed contract with multiple late first round picks. Essentially they can't make all those picks, so they had to move them somehow and for something, we'll assume this was the best offer on the table, and should coincide with Phoenix not having Durant, Beal or Booker on the team anymore.

But, all that said, the return of an unprotected pick 7 years from now isn't something I'd be counting on changing the direction of my franchise. The player they'll draft with that pick is like a 5th or 6th grader right now.

Phoenix gets the worst of the three picks the Jazz have each year, and this year that will likely be the very last pick in the draft. In two years, it is probably a bottom five pick.

In 2031, the Suns are unlikely to be that good. Booker will be 35 or 36 and I bet they trade him before then. Durant will be well into his 40s. Beal will be 38 and probably long gone.

I don't think this is a bad return at all. Unprotected picks from teams that lack assets and aren't run very well are pretty valuable.
